Hi All,

I have a new song which has been swimming around my head for well over a year.
I have finally given it a try.

Here it is: Watching The Wind

What do you think?

Real Tracks used are:

Drums Bossa Rock Full (5 Brushes)
1174 Bass Electric Pop Calypso Ev 100
1173 Accordian Rhythm Pop Calypso Ev 100
1264 Piano Acoustic Rhythm Pop Shining A-B Ev 120
1259 Guitar Electric Rhythm Pop Shining Rock A 120
1267 Synth Pad Pop Shining A-B Ev 120
1260 Guitar Electric Soloist Pop Shining Ev 120

Lyrics are:

Watching the wind blowing through the night
How still the sight of the wind in the air
Watching the breeze blowing though the trees
Where does it go well you just can't foresee

What does it matter where it blows
What does it matter where it goes
How I wish I was the wind in the night
Soaring to the heavens what a wonderful sight
Leaving all your worries yes just let them go
Over the meadows far below

Watching the wind blowing through the night
I wonder where it will take me tonight
Will it take me on an angelic ride
Perhaps nowhere as it gently subsides

Instrumental

What does it matter where it blows
What does it matter where it goes
How I wish I was the wind in the night
Soaring to the heavens what a wonderful sight
Leaving all your worries yes just let them go
Over the meadows far below

Best regards
George
George,

Nice song. I guess it's your voice, but you've got that nice "Ringo" thing going! I like it. Keep up the good work!

George,

You do have that Ringo sound Very cool song!

Bob
Hi Steve & Bob,

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment on my song.

Very much appreciated.

Onward and upward

Nice song George. I notice that the effect on your vocal is not on there after the solo spot. That should be fixed before calling this one done. Also watch that the effect isn't too heavy that it makes the lyrics unintellegable. You may know the lyrics very well. Make sure the listener doesn't have to stuggle too much to understand what's being said, or else it just becomes a sound effect- not a message.

Nice tune!

Dan
Hi Dan,

Your right about the vocal.

Guess I was brain dead when I let that one go through.

You need to hurry up with your Reaper video so that I can remedy it.

Best regards
George

P.S I have fixed it now.

George,

I liked it. The only suggestion would be to pull back on both the lead guitar and vocal tracks-volume wise. They are "stepping" on the backing tracks.

Very nice song and use of the Real Tracks. Way to go !!

I agree with Trax.

A better mix will make this good song into an outstanding one.

Good work thus far!

LOL! Hang in there. You know, I just estimated that for every 15 minute chapter it takes me two hours to complete! Yikes! So yeah, hang tight! LOL!

Good song here though- that'sthe main thing.

Dan

Hi Trax,

Followed your recommendation and pulled back on Vocals and Lead Guitar.
Let me know if I need to pull back more.

Hi Mario,

I have amended the Vocals and Lead Guitar.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for taking a listen.

Perhaps you could add a chapter on your video series to show how you balance a song.

That should only take an hour

George
Hi Robert,

Hi George,

It's been a while since I last heard one of your songs. I always like listening to your work and you've really gone places since I last heard you.

Your mix of this song sounded very comfortable; like someone who's starting to really understand the nooks and crannies of a DAW. I noticed that in the back half of the song, you did not double your vocals. I found myself thinking, "This guys got a good voice when he sings without doubling. I'd like to hear more of this."

The body of this song has such a calming, restful feel. It was a pleasure to hear.

All the best,
Noel
Hi Noel,

Very nice to hear from you again.

Well, I have a new song which I am going to put on the forum.
I sing without doubling (well I double the chorus)
Just waiting for Dan aka(Shockwave199) to finish his vocal example in Reaper.
I may get some insights to vocal mixing from that.

Thank you for your very kind words

Best regards
George

Yes I can also hear some uneven application of effect on the vox.

It does sound a little odd.

THe solo gtr patch is maybe a tad aggressive for this type of piece.

But these are small quibbles.

This has a pleasing melody and an interesting lyric, George.
Hi Marc,

Yes I agree, this is not one of my better tries.
The song had been noodling around in my head and I just had to get it down.
I have probably chosen the wrong style for this song.. but hey, we all have to learn

I will probably re-visit this song at a later date and see if I can improve it.

Thank you for your nice comments.

Best regards
George
