BACK IN THE PHILLIPINES

[intro]
Once I had a little monkey, who'd steal all my toys,/
Timbo liked climbing trees with his skinny blue-eyed boy,/
Memories memories pulling me back,/
five or six miles, way up in a jet,/
Far away from home as you can get,/

[v1]
Now I'm eating a sloppy mango on the veranda,/
Coconut coconut tumbling down to the sand,/
My silky shirt poofs in the sultry breeze,/
blowing in off of the deep blue sea,/

A local band playing the blues next door,/
I ain't gonna worry my life anymore,/
Flirting brown eyes, in a purple skirt,/
sashaying by, sandals slapping the dirt,/

[ch]
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all should come over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga sa-an ka?/
Philippines waits for you, whoever you are,/
Fizzling waves, and thundering Spanish guitars,/

[v2]
Jukin and jumpin, bumpin down muddy dirt roads,/
ride in the back of a flashy Jeepney down to the coast,/
hazy and cool in the sea of bamboo,/
bounce thru the barrio de ja vu,/

Snorkling out in the coral again,/
jellyfish stings, we ought to go in,/
Laying around on the crystal sand,/
scurrying crabs as big as your hand,/

[ch]
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all should come over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga sa-an ka?/
Philippines here for you, whoever you are,/
Cascading waves, thundering Spanish guitars,/

[br]
Life in the States, it's groovy, it's great,/
But sometimes it feels like such a frantic race!/
Family starting to grumble,/
All my excuses starting to crumble,/

[ch}
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all should come over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga sa-an ka?/
Philippines just for you, whoever you are,/
Towering waves, thundering Spanish guitars,/

[ch}
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all come on over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga sa-an ka?/
Philippines capture you, whoever you are,/
Fizzling waves, and thundering Spanish guitars,/

I enjoyed it Kent. A very nice tribute and liked the pix on the video too. Your lyrics were descriptive with action and nice rhymes that didn't sound contrived or forced. You took me with you in your daydreams of your carefree youth on the island. The harmonies on the chorus was a nice touch - maybe could've been mixed just a wee bit lower volume wise but that's just me...

I thought the verse/chorus form fit this song really well and your production chops will only get better. I liked the way you added the instruments in as the song progressed.

Keep at it! Looking forward to your next one.

Hi Kent,

It's a very thoughtful arrangement that you've created here. I was impressed with the way that it develops.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks Josie and Noel,

And thanks for not mentioning how bad my voice is. I'm trying to find a male vocalist.

Next one will be called "The Ballad of a Hmong Flower".

About the Vietnam War. However, I am going to go a lot slower and really work on my 'production chops' this time.
