This song was done completely in Band-In-A Box using midi cello in Coyote Forte VST-DXI for the melody and Realtracks "Pop Vancouver" piano solo acc. from disk#70. I love these accompaniments. They give even the simplest melody a beautiful backup. When I wrote this song I had lyrics written which I will include even though this piece was done as an instrumental. Comments and Suggestions always welcome.

SHADOWS
Words & Music Val Zudell

#1 We always laugh whenever we're together

But your laughter is only a disguise

Pretending there's no wall that stands between us

But there's shadows of an old love in your eyes

#2 You've been holding on to hopeless wishes

Keeping out the light that love will need to grow

Let love into your heart and find that this is

All it really takes to make the shadows go

Chorus:

Don't linger any longer in the shadows

Always looking back at where you've been

As long as you are living in the shadows

You can't begin to fall in love again

#3 Our love could grow out in the sunlight

In the shadows love can't even get a start

Remember love can happen more than one time

Don't let shadows from the past keep us apart

Val,

What a pretty melody. It has kind of a poignant lilt to it.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment,Tim, I am really quite fond of what melodies do for a musical piece and so sorry that they have kind of gotten lost in a lot of todays music in favor of a beat. I would like to see a return to melodious compositions but I suppose that is like wishing for the moon. The "poignant lilt" was exactly what I was hoping to capture because of the lyrics.

I agree with Tim, Val. Melody is something that often gets overlooked. Yet, it is the very thing that captures the mind as you are listening.

I like the emotional softness of the song.

I agree with you that I would like to see the emphasis on melody construction return. However, it never really leaves so long as we do what we do. Keep on writing and keep on recording. I will be listening as you add them!

You should take it out of the shadows and sing on it. Nice melody!

RickeG,
Appreciate your listening and your comments.

Tommyc,
Would love to do that but lost my voice last year and struggle just to talk. That is why I have taken to instrumentals. I will post one that I did before I lost my voice.
Watch for "To Know You Love Me".

Val,

As has been said consistently here, beautiful melody! Very nice song. I hope you haven't permanently lost your singing voice. I listened to "To Know You Love Me", and you have a beautiful voice. I pray it returns to you!

Steve,

Thanks again. I haven't given up hope completely but it has been several months now and I figured it was time I started doing something new with my music. Just can't stay away from it.
