Hey ya'll,

I wrote this feel good song called She's In Love in the tradition of the sixties girl groups - lots of harmony and horns.

Style is _SOL60HS.STY (60s Soul with HornSection[110RS])

RealTracks in style: 1569:Bass, Electric, Soul60sA-B Ev 110
RealTracks in style: 1578:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm Soul60sA-B Ev 110
RealTracks in style: 1572:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Soul60sHighA-B Ev 110
RealTracks in style: 2110:Horn Section, Background, R&B Ev16 110
RealDrums in style: Soul60sTamboEv^1-a:HHtSnr, b:BsyBss

And I sprinkled in a few extra horns from the individual horn rt's but not too much.

All comments are welcome. Hope you enjoy it.
Hi Josie,

Well done! I enjoyed it. I liked the key change, too, and the lift in energy it brought with it.

All the best,
Noel
Another winner here Josie!

This is a keeper.

Great job Josie. I enjoyed it a lot. It really takes me back.

Love the backing vocals, all the harmony.
Josie, that's absolutely wonderful!

You've captured the feel of the era perfectly and the harmony vocals were just sublime - please post and tell us how you recorded them. I really enjoyed listening to this one - three times so far!

ROG.
Nice work, Josie... Carole King would be proud!

As above, harmonies were very fine, and I especially liked your tasteful use of the horns... very convincing.
Noel,

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

Mario,

Thank you. I always appreciate you listening and your feedback.

Austin,

Thank you. Glad it made you feel good.
ROG,

Thank you. You made my day with what you said and listening three times!

I recorded the harmony tracks with my trusty old SM58. The tracks are a combination of live and harmonizer. My TCH doesn't work for every song but it's nice when it fits. The kids you teach who can already sing harmony would have a blast with one.

Brad,

Carole is my hero - heroine - heroess....well I wanted to be her when I grew up. Never quite boarded that boat but I have a good time anyway. And thank you for the horns comment.

I appreciate it.
Josie,

Great job on this! Sounded like Smokey R had a hand in this! Very authentic sounding. Enjoyable!

I like the song a lot! It really catches the '60s feeling that you were aiming for. It's a fun song to listen to.

I'm not thrilled with the mix, though - it doesn't seem to have the sort of energy that I associated with the genre, and loses a lot of "oomph" at the modulation - exactly where it should be building excitement again. At 2:12 (at the modulation) you can hear the horns being dialed down.

I was listening to a number of other songs (like this and this), and it's sort of surprising how sparse those arrangements are. I think you'd get a more effective mix if you followed the model of the 60s songs, bringing the drums and horns more forward, but creating a lot more space in the arrangement.

Or leave it exactly as it is.
Dig this one, Josie. Love the horns and the modulation.

Regards,

Bob
groovy baby or what ever we said in the '60's,it is too early for a "far out man".
totally enjoyable.

I like the "with me" at the end ... good idea.

Alyn
Long, long ago.
You really got that 60s sound.
I liked listening.

Guenter
Right from the first beat, I knew I'd like it...you have the girl group sound down perfectly!
What I liked most about it is the simplicity of the vocal lines...allows your beautiful harmonies to really shine. And the little modulation in there was very nice...it came a bit unexpectedly, so it was a nice surprise!
Hey Josie,

Let me just say I really like this one!

Love the acoustic guitar on the right... and then the electric on the left in the chorus, just couldn't work any better than it is!

Great vocals, wonderful mix!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not really hearing the horns, but it doesn't matter 'cause what I am hearing I really like!

Nice Job.

Greg
Floyd,

Thank you. Smokey mentioned in the same sentence as one of my songs is a huge compliment.

David,

Thank you. I always appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Bob,

Thank you. It was really fun to do.
Alyn,

Groovey. LOL! I'm glad you liked the "with me" I went back and forth on that.

Guenter,

Thank you for listening. Glad you liked it.

Tano,

Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
Josie,
Very nice song. I especially liked the vocals. It has real spirit. Thanks for sharing another great tune.

SD
You nailed the 60's vibe there Josie, well done. Reminded me of the girl groups back then on black and white tv. Very nice.
Josie,

As always, good job! (Not that I am old enough to be familiar with this genre!)

Actually, one of the first bands I played in was a 50's & 60's girl band. (No, I wasn't one of the girls! - I played in it to be around the girls!) Good times.

You did a good job of capturing the feel of the genre!

Steve
Greg,

You are forgiven for listening to the wrong song. LOL! And thank you for the compliments.

SD,

So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.

Chris,

Thank you! Usually I go through a ton of rt's and like to roll my own so to speak but the set of rt's PG put together for soul60s is so on target. I may have to move up a decade and try doing something with the seventies rt's too.
Steve,

Thank you.

Glad it brought back some fun memories.
Josie,

what a great idea for a song, and you're the perfect person to pull it off!

Though you refer to it as "sixties girl groups", it's also a good match for what's referred to around here as "beach music". So, in case you have a strong desire to spend your retirement years playing music in Myrtle Beach SC, write more of this genre, and you'll be good to go!

I thought the horns fit perfectly with the mood of the song

I especially liked the "responses" (the little one word comments thrown in by the background singers)

Gladys Knight has her Pips... you should think up a name for your BG singers

Josie Beck and the __________ <--fill in the blank
"pussycats" came immediately to mind there Pat, but hey that is what happens when you raise a couple girls. Here i am 20 years later and cartoons are scampering around in my head unchecked!!!
Brought a smile to my face....and FWIW I graduated from high school in 1963!
Sorry I almost missed this one, you did get that 60's feel for sure.

Nice job indeed.

Later,
hi josie great vocal mix arrangement well done all been said thanks for sharing eric
Pat,

Thank you. If I could move there I'd fit right in - like beach music and the beach.

Robh,

Sweet memories.

Bud,

Glad you got a grin.

Danny,

Thank you.

Eric,

Appreciate that, thank you.
Of course I have to congratulate my partner in rhyme on another excellent song...

Bob
Hi Josie

You have a very young sounding voice don't know your age but vocal is very sweet. I think hearing you sing I couldn't help smile.
Great sounding demo for a song with potential

Well done

Nice work Josie. I like that style! I also listened to "Girl It's Gone" yesterday. It got me down a little bit...such a sad sentiment (cute Pig though). Thank goodness, this one picked me right back up again! Of course, they were both well done.

Patrick
