Walk In The City

©2013 Robert Randall Burke

Went for a walk in the city
Lookin' for a man
You can usually find him
Down by the taxi stand.

All the creatures were on parade
The creatures of the night
The vampires down the alley
Hidin' from the light
Hidin' from the light.

Music pouring out from the bars
Geeks staring at the passing cars
To get a glimpse of the fallen stars
On Hollywood and Vine.

Sweet Mary don't come around here no more
Said it got too tight
I'd like to say that I miss her
But that just wouldn't be right.
No, that just wouldn't be right.

Went for a walk in the city
Oh, walk in the city....
Went for a walk in the city....

Terrific, Robert!

Off the top of my head: Randy Newman meets Bruce Springsteen meets Warren Zevon! All of which are terrific. You have vampires where Zevon had werewolves.

This song would be a perfect entry for the first week song challenge on FAWM, which is "City Songs." You are prolific enough, go for it. http://fawm.org/songs/challenges/week1/

Robert,

Gotta agree with Brad...
>>>Randy Newman meets Bruce Springsteen meets Warren Zevon! All of which are terrific.
(some of my favorites!)

Great job! Very cool vocal - and good job on the harmonica (I assume that is you?).

I would have liked that piano mixed up just a little - that's what Bruce, Randy and Warren would have done...

Very cool, though...

Good mix and cool voice.
You didn't point out a harmonica Realtrack. Is it yours?

Brad, Floyd, Guenter,

Thanks for listening and commenting. Everything is RT except the harp - that's Hohner.
I would do the FAWM, but I'm busy trying to finish a bunch of stuff that's been kicking around for months, and trying to get some licencing placements.

Just doing what Peter advises - having fun.

Regards,

Bob

Hi Bob,

In my experience, all your work is top shelf. That was the mindset with which I clicked on the link to listen to this song. I had no doubts at all that I'd enjoy what you've done and be entertained. Then Soundclick started playing. What I was hearing made my eyes pop open!

This song is a real credit to you from every perspective - music, lyrics, arrangement, mix, performance. It's so very different from anything I've heard from you in the past that I had to double-check that I'd actually clicked the link in your post. You've sure raised the bar in the forum with this one.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks Noel!

(The checks in the mail, BTW).

What a cool song. +1 to what's been said already. To me it has a Bob Seeger vibe in there too. Especially like that intro.

Well done.

Thanks for the kind remarks Josie.

Loved the song, music, lyrics, structure, and performance. Nice Hohner.

Overall very much like one of my favorites the late great Warren Zevon.

It is not an easy task to write and perform a song like this.
Few people can and do it extremely well. Most would try and fail. I would love to be able to do it but can't.

Excellent work!

Hi robert
Very dark thoughts!
I get the same feelings sometimes here in the UK.
Well thought out and put into words.
Excellent
