This was written in the early 1980's as the first part of a trilogy regarding the state of the UK.
I used to do it live up to the loud instrumental out, me and my 12 string.

Race of the Rats
I may be alarming but is it true
The animals are forming a line 2 by 2
It may be hearsay but the rumour is in
That even the rats are learning hard how to swim
Lemings have been seen on the motorway to the coast
And even the cows voluntarily turn to roast
An albatross has died so it is said
Politician shot him in the head

Round and round in circles every way
Chasing our tails hiding our heads in the sand every day

We burnt our boats we destroyed all we got
we all disobey orders like the wife of Lot
building our towers up to the sky
the noise of our Bable increasing our lies
Off singing in church in our Pharises coats
We're killing our brothers for their technicolour coats
Saviour has died so it is said
The country shot him and kicked him in the head

Round and round in circles every way
Chasing our tails hiding our heads in the sand every day

Hi Alyn,

I really like the groove you've got happening with this. It got my feet a-tappin'. I also liked the creative quirky bits in the arrangement. As I listened, I was reminded of Monty Python's Flying Circus. (I mean that as a compliment. I'm a huge fan of Monty Python.)

Regards,
Noel

Alyn,

An entertaining production. Very listenable. Some very clever lyrics, too.

As I was listening, I started thinking... "This sounds like something that Paul and John would have written for Ringo to sing" (they tried to do that once on each album). When the ending began... that thought became increasingly strong..... It even ended the way they would have!!! Quite Beatlesque.

Enjoyable.

Hey Alyn, great track!

I read the lyrics before listening to the song and was expecting a bit of a "downer", so what a surprise. It really romps along, not at all in the style you'd expect from the subject.

Like Noel, it put me in mind of Monte Python - in particular "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life".

Excellent stuff. Are we going to see some more of your work here soon?

Really cool sounding track Alyn. Loved the arrangement and the mix. Cool vocal too. Especially liked those yabba dabbas adding an interesting twist of surprise.

Enjoyed it very much.

Noel96, Thanks for the Monty Python comparison, that is a great compliment.

floyd jane; Beatlesque......what can I say, I am humbled.

ROG, Thank you also for the Monty Comparison. I now see your comparison with "Always look on the Bright Side of life" Life has been extremely hard the last few years and that song should be my theme song! More songs are on the way.

Achordcaster; thank you for listening

Sundance; I imagined Baloo from Jungle Book singing it as my son was then small and hooked on that film, as I was. The yabba dabba's were fun to do in my little headphoned world. The wife heard me do them and thought I had finally cracked LOL. She said she disliked the song..pah what did SHE know.

The Real Track REALLY set the song rolling. It replaced a couple of strumming tracks and *wham* the song rocked. Thank you Mr G and BIAB.

Thank you all for listening and the compliments.

Now to have spam spam eggs beans and spam for breakfast....while dressed like a lumberjack *blush*
