Wasn't going to post this one but awww, can't resist the temptation.
Had an assignment to do for the songwriting course and got writers block.

Chicken Grease - By Funky Mountain Junket

There's this brilli-ant idea you'd like everyone to hear
You'll ex-press it in a song and be famous before long
It will clog the internet loved by everyone I'll bet
You're so keen to start your pitch that it makes your fingers itch

But nothing springs to mind just at the moment
Nothing but this childish stupid song
You want to write a masterpiece but what you need is chicken grease
You're stuck stuck stuck And you shout --- --- ---
Where did I go wrong?

Your clever rhyming schemes ful-fil everybodys dreams
Your boxes flow with stunning simple plot
The prosody is plain to see it all ex-plodes in melody
The song you'll soon be starting would startle Dolly Parton

But nothing springs to mind just at the moment
Nothing but this childish stupid song
You want to write a masterpiece but what you need is chicken grease
You're stuck stuck stuck And you shout --- --- ---
Where did I go wrong?

There's a tickle in your brain that will drive you quite insane
So drag it to the light and let it out
Show the world fearlessly how un-stable you can be
Save the main idea until the end see what message you can send

But nothing springs to mind just at the moment
Nothing but this childish stupid song
You want to write a masterpiece but what you need is chicken grease
You're stuck stuck stuck And you shout --- --- ---
And then you sing this song © richmac November 2013

Rich, "You want to write a masterpiece but what you need is chicken grease" I think I've been there more than I'd like to admit. Thanks for the smile you brought to my face. Tom

That was a fun listen. Thanks for posting.

From a lyric perspective, what do you think of verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, instead?

That way the central idea of the song wouldn't be given away as early and would result in more of a surprise. (I'm thinking of those Pattison Box development things).

Richard,

Some good writing going on there... really like that bass!
Good job on the vocal, too!
I think Frank has a good idea there...

+1 or I should say +2 since Floyd technically already +1'd Frank's suggestion. LOL!

Funny stuff and loved the fiddles Rich.

Great fun, great lyrics.
Enjoyed the spoken song idea.
Lots of laughs along the way - I think we all can identify with this.
Cheers

PS - dont forget the clip the Lead in clicks off the opening.

Great Scott. Glad you enjoyed it!

PG Fantastic. Thanks for listening.

Tom. Glad you got a laugh. I was extremely frustrated when writing it.

Frank. Thanks for checking it out. Yes that certainly makes sense. That suggestion is much appreciated.

Floyd. Encouraging comments. Thanks. I need to craft my ideas a little more.

Josie. Glad you got a laugh.

Ian. Thanks for nice comments. And for reminding me to tidy up a bit.

I always intend to apply Pat's approach to the craft... but then... I get a brainstorm and scribble away.... and dive on to the next thing..

Hi, Rich !

I sat here laughing at my
desktop with my headphones on
and my children in the room
next to mine peeped in to
see if I finally had lost it ?
How can I thank you for adding
to my life expectance length
by all this uncontrolled laughing ??

Cheers
Dani

Hi Richard
I know the felling very well!! I did the coursera song writing course at the beginning of the year and found it very hard to "write on demand". I generally wait for the inspiration to hit me. But I guess the professionals can do it!!

Gruverider. Thanks for listening and enjoying.

Thanks JosieC. I also find making lyrics unstable very hard.
