Hi Aleck
Cant make my mind up if this is Blues or Country or what. So I decided thats its an "Aleck".
Really enjoyed this - one of my old songs from my last Band days. I left in 76 and I can remember rehearsing and playing this with them. We had a 3 pce brass and a tatty old Vox Continental in the line-up. Great sound when it all blew loud and proud. Ah - good days!!
Loved the singing voice - I really must try the Helicon sometime - but first "buy a mic" lol!
Very cool OD guitar breaks - sounded a bit middle/ bridge pickup - would it have sounded any different on Neck, I wonder?
Whatever the case - this is a super job.
Couldnt find a way to DL it off Soundlcoud though.Maybe thats the way it is.
cheers

Aleck this is one of my favorite songs and you did it justice!

If you had told me in advance that you were going to use this instrumentation I would have said are you nuts! But man you did make it work. Great job!

Merry Christmas

Aleck, Ok, You've got two of my favorite things here. Pedal Steel and a song written by Elvin Bishop. He was in the original lineup of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. They were one of my biggest influences. Great soulful vocal. A very unique take on the song. I really liked it. Tom P.S. There is a nasty crackle at 3:41.

Tommy,

Thanks for the kind words, but I had to crack up over this:

If you just replace the word "crackle" with "voice" then you've nailed it because that crackle is my voice. Uh boy, I wonder what that says about my future as a vocalist?

Thanks so much Mario, I'm glad you liked it.

I know the instrument selection is a little "out of the box" and figured that listeners would hear that beautiful pedal steel and think a CW tune was coming up. That was how I planned to lure 'em in, then once I had 'em, they'd keep listening.

Still remains to be seen if this strategy worked. So far so good.

Merry Christmas and may Santa be generous.

Thanks Floyd,

I knew I could lure you into my web with that pedal steel, then you just had to keep listening. Glad you liked it and Merry Christmans to you and yours.

Aleck, This put a smile on my face. I love this tune, this arrangement really worked.

Your voice has so much character, I really dig the thickness with a hint of rasp. You just can't teach that.

What the hell is Helicon (I'm guessing it has something to do with those harmonies). I'll have to do a search.

Hey Franp, Merry Christmas and thank you for those powerful compliments.

The TC Helicon is a gizmo that comes free with Band-In-A-Box and, yes, it does generate harmonies.

Sometimes.

It's pretty finicky and can produce really funny, as well as horrifying results. The best results seem to come from singing a couple of harmony lines above the main melody, then using "4 voices above" on each one to generate an 8 voice vocal group backing you up! Big!

Hi Dean...

we saw this and had to have a listen. We absolutely love this song. And we love the way you restyled it...Country Blues. The vocal sounds a little like a combo of Aaron Neville and Luther Vondross. And that drum roll at the 2:00 mark is great!

Thanks for introducing us to another version of this great song. We think Elvin would approve!
