Hi, friends !

I thought you might find this song interesting
as it depicts the arriving of an ordinary autumn
up here in the North ! Especially as the one we have
experienced so far is far from ordinary,as we have not yet
seen a single snowflake and the sea is still open.....
but, .....wait till jan/feb arrives....that is usually
the coldest period up here ! This song was on my 92
record at that time sung with my trio in the original
language (swedish) ! This translation is thus just
a plain translation without rhyme as I think it was
necessary to give the listener a clue to what was going
on and why the melancholic melody and chords.

Autumn In The Archipelago (orig: Höst I Skärgården)

http://app.box.com/s/reg1dadn9mos5s4yenhq

Style: PFPBTSW.STY Slow Pop Waltz 2 finger Pk guits (85 RS)
Recorded thru zoom h4n and Focusrite 2i2 to Mixcraft 6 on
my laptop.

Here is the translation:

Leaves they keep falling, and frost lays itself
over islands and isles, it is autumn arriving

Boats are no longer, being seen on the bayou
they´re sleeping so well, under storm stricken shelters

autumn is here once again
and the islands have started their winter´s sleep
swept in a blanket of snow, islands alone

Birds they have all fled, to still warmer countries
and squirrels will change to a fur coat of silver

Alone lay my islands awaiting in silence
till life will awake them when spring is a-rising

autumn is here once again
and the islands have started their winter´s sleep
swept in a blanket of snow, islands alone

Hi Dani,

Living here in Australia, Autumn in your part of the world is so very different from anything I have ever experienced. It seems to me that my concept of "cold" is about 20 - 25 degrees Celsius hotter than yours!

It's a beautiful song that you've shared with us. I love waltzes! I have to say that your writing is incredibly consistent.

All the best,
Noel

Hi, Noel !

Thank you for your kind comments !:))

It is quite understandable that you´ll never
have the kind of autumns that we normally
get to experience up here !:) But I can
assure you it can be a treat when you can walk
skate or ski on the surface of the ocean between
all those beautiful islands ! (lol) You do not
think about the temperature then when you are out
there in the crispy air, somewhere between
or skiing over some mysterious islands out on the sea
(lol) :))

Cheers

Hi Dani

Another really beautiful song you have produced. Very nice listening.

Like Noel reflects, we don't know those extremes of seasons here in Australia, (they're predicting +40 degrees here tomorrow).

However, I had the great opportunity to spend a few weeks in Europe in January earlier this year, and walked through snow covered towns, traveled by fast train through the Alps with snow covered mountains all around, and most importantly, made sure I actually went for a 'Walk In The Black Forest' (Schwarzwaldfahrt) in Freiburg, Germany. It was truly spectacular to experience, although the Black Forest at that time was actually very, very white !

Yours is truly a beautiful part of the world...

Keep up the great work

Kind regards
Trevor

Dani,

I DO like your music! It is refreshingly original and that guitar solo was a nice interlude to the vocals.

Our autumns here in Wales, UK, consist of the wrong type of snow/rain/leaves/wind as everything seems to stop once December gets here. Although to be fair 80 mph winds and a mini tornado, apparently, hit my town last night and I can see the improvements laugh

Beautiful song Dani. Lyrics, singing, guitar work = excellent

Dani, A nice relaxing way to transition the seasons. The vocals and the guitar are just right for this. Oddly enough I didn't mind the lack of rhyme. Very nice all around. Tom

Hi Dani,

beautiful song.
I would like to hear the original, too, sung by your trio.

Hi, Trevor !

...and thanks a lot for your kind comments !:))
Now, + 40 does sound quite extreme for me (chuckle) !!:) (lol) !
But, ok, I know what you mean ! I do nor know what has gone
into the weather as it is unusually warm for the season ?
Should be subzero temps for quite a long time already
and it is + 6 Celsius outside !!! :)) No wonder they have not
been able to sell much skis or skaters over here compared
to a normal winter !:))

Hi, Alyn !:))

Thank you for your kind comments !:))
IMO your own tunes are quite original too (lol)
and I like listening to them !:))
The tornados are probably remnants of those
hurricanes that come over the Atlantic with the
golf stream !:)) We feel it up here too, but
because the weather is so warm we have not
got it as snow but as rain !:))

Cheers

Hi, Scott !

I am happy that you liked this
little autumn/winter tune of mine.
I wrote it at the place we used
to live before my wife got ill.
It was down by the seaside in
the Helsinki archipelago (one of
the most beautiful archipelagos
in the world ) lol !

Hi, Tommy !:))

...and thank you so much for your kind words !
Yes, no rhyme and if you listened carefully
no drums either ! The lyrics came much more
forward when the drums did not interfere !

Dani, you song perfectly describes our autumns as well as yours. The only difference is we do not have any islands but we do skate and ski.

The vocal, lyrics, song structure, lead guitar and mix were excellent.

Hi, Mario !:))

Thank you Mario for your most kind comments !:))

You are probably situated somewhere
along the Eastern coast of North America
and quite up there too as you´ll have your
share of snow and ice during wintertime ?

Hi, Frank !

I am very glad that you liked this
old autumn/winter tune of mine
written back in 1990-92. Back then
I wrote some 16 songs for a CD and this
was one of them !:))

Yes Dani I am in upper Western New York State very close to Lake Ontario. The Rochester NY region that I am in is the snow capitol of New York State! Lots of skiing and skating here. Ice hockey is very big here. Although most of it is played indoors we just had a 10-day outdoor hockey event. I watched it on television, as watching hockey in –15C (5F) is not my idea of having fun.

Really really nice. It all works. Mesmerizing. Janice and I live in a forest and seasonal changes are a major part of our lives. I wish I could express them as you do in this lovely song. Thank you.

Hi Dani,

This is a very beautiful song! Everything about it is pristine. Nice chord arrangement and the mix of the instruments is perfect. And we loved the vocal, too. Congratulations on a very nice song!!!!

I (Al) lived in Germany in the 1970's and 1980's (12 years) but never made it to Finland. The farthest north I got was Denmark.

Again, great song! Wishing you a very wonderful new year!

Hi, Al & Di !:))

I am glad you liked
my little wintry tune !:))
The Autumns up here used
to be like this but lately
they have not been quite
the same anymore !:))

I cannot recall having been
down to Germany myself, it is
a trip I still would like to do,
maybe to hear Barbara Dennerlein
play Hammond B3 !!!:))

We are in GA USA and we have somewhat cold winters (our idea of a cold day is 40 degrees F), warm springs, hot summers and cool falls. All with great changes in flora and fauna. Pretty leaf changes and different migratory birds in the summer and winter. Not too bad at all. And although we are 68 and 56 we spend most of our time hiking, mountain biking and kayaking. Other than with music we pretty much stay outside!

Hi, Bud & Janice !

Thank you so much for taking the time
to instruct me ! I take it GA = Georgia !
Have not been there yet ! My limited
travels in the US have mostly been
to New York, Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, Boise, Albaquerque,
and Santa Fé (where I even got to raft
down el Rio Grande !! Oh Boy !!!)

Hi Dani!

That was really nice! Some unexpected chord changes at the end caught me by surprise - very pleasantly. You're becoming a Real RealTracks master.

Hi, Dean my good friend !:))

Thank you for your warm comment !:))
I must admit that these realtracks
are a real treat !:)) I am not mastering
the audiophile yet (and probably never will
before the next update) but I think
I´m learning something new all the time !
I am completely taken by all these magnificient
realtrack styles which gives one so many
different options to start writing a song ?

Hi SD !:))

I am truly glad you liked this little wintry tune
of mine ! We used to live by the seaside and
when the summer was over all boats had to be
pulled out of the sea. I had built one of these shelters
for my boat myself. They had to be well packed in
as the winters can be very, very cold up here even
down at Helsinki level ! Helsinki is on the same
level as Anchorage in Alaska, so no wonder in itself ?

Can recall temps down to
- 32 C but that was long ago and such temps have
not been measured around for a long time. As I said
earlier it is +4 C outside for the moment and it will
probably drop to - 2 during this week !:))

Cheers
Dani
