We are about to metaphorically “lose” one of our 2 Grand-daughters, who has just turned 3, as our Son and family emigrate from the UK to Australia.
There's nothing for them now in the UK any more, not for those folks who Work hard and contribute to the economy anyways. He has a Job waiting for him in Oz with much better terms and conditions (pro rata) than anything he could get here. Good luck I say, however broken hearted we are at seeing them go.
Beautiful, clever, cheeky, dainty, loving and happy little Chloe goes with them, of course, as they start their new Life.
I will miss our little "chats" (such an old head on young shoulders), walking out to the Park tiny hand in big old hand, tickling fighting on the rug until she squeaks with happiness, or dancing around holding on to my fingers and most of all I will miss being close by as she grows up into the beautiful woman she undoubtedly will become.
She loves music and thinks Grandad playing his guitar is really funny. Er – why?? lol !
“Grandad, when I grow up I imagine I'll have one of those,” she said looking at my Fiesta Red Strat.
Then that look of puzzlement - “Er, Grandad, what's it called?” Kids!!!
Anyway this tune is for her. May she take our Love with her on her journey to the other side of the World. Next time we see her she'll be gone 5 and I hope and pray that she'll still want to dance holding on to my fingers.

Nice one Ian

Melancholy yet uplifting -- perhaps I'm hearing it from both the perspective of them leaving and the hope of a new road taken. Did I say I'm a sucker for a waltz? This is a very pretty production that we both enjoyed listening to. Oh,and the accordion is a nice touch.

HI Ian...

Reading your intro to the song was very touching. Our grandchildren live all over the US....more than a thousand miles apart. Di and I wish them every bit of luck and prosperity in OZ. I have quite a few friends there.

This was such a pretty song. The simplicity was so charming and played in the manner in which a young lady might think...simply but beautifully. loved the tone of your guitar and the waltz is my favo(u)rite dabce. My former wife and I won several dance competitions via the waltz.

That was a touching and delightful listen. Thanks for a real musical treat! Best to you and your family...

Hi Ian,

thanks for the background story.
In this context this is a beautiful
song for the young lady.
Enjoyable listen.

Grampa,

I hope you've got Skype or Facetime set up. Or one of those things (I've never used 'em, but the world passes me by more and more each day). We have a friend whose daughter moved to Oz with her boyfriend. They Skype a couple of times a week... I've recently seen that new TVs are coming with a small camera mounted on them - the future is here - I think it was meant specifically for Grampas...

Nice little waltz, Ian. Smooth. From the heart... well played.

What's not to like? You sure captured the emotion of the story with the song, and the production of it was superlative.

Very nice song. Sad to be far away from family. In our case it was our decision to leave for work. I can feel the saddness in the playing and can relate. Guitar sounds awesome...

Hi Videotrack - thanks for listening.
Hi Janice and Bud - sucker for a Waltz? Me too."Melancholy yet uplifting -- perhaps I'm hearing it from both the perspective of them leaving and the hope of a new road taken." Thats it in a nutshell. Thanks for your kind observation.
Al and Di - For us the distance is 10,000 miles. A simple tune and I have to admit to using some of FJ's chording ideas to fatten it up a bit.
Guenter- glad you liked it.
Olemon - Thank you for your kind words.
Bob - Glad you liked it. My Strat on neck pickup has a lovely smooth tone.
Floyd - Yes Floyd, we are just moving into the 20th Century!! With a bit of luck we'll eventually make it to the 21st!! lol! Son has set us up on Skype and we are ready to rock with it but its nothing like putting your arms around them.
cheers

Ian, Bud says it right " Melancholy yet uplifting" I really like the melody. After reading your song intro I really feel for you. Skype makes it better than it was 10 yrs ago. At least you've got three years of precious memories. Good Luck going forward. I liked the song. Well played and produced. Tom

Hi Dani and Tommy
Thank you for listening and your comforting words.
Son tells me that we can actually beam HIS Skype to our big flat screen and when he visits next he'll tell me how.
Wow!!!!
Cheers guys

So, so nice smile

Classic, mellow, sad, but somehow hopeful. Really nice tune. I'm lucky that my first and so far only grandchild is just an hour away and we get to see her pretty often (supplemented by Facetime visits). Her second birthday party is this Saturday, and I've made a couple of music videos for her (with help from BIAB) that will debut at the party.

Sorry yours will be so far away - as others have said, we are lucky these days to have Skype, Facetime, etc. It isn't the same but it helps.

Take care,
Bruce

Hi Ian,

I'm so glad that Icelander pulled this one out of the past. I missed it in January when you posted it. It's beautiful. You really have such a great sense of melody. I always enjoy listening to your creations.

All the best,
Noel

Hello Ian,

As a matter of fact you're going to lose your child and grandchild to a better future.
Which doesn't make it easier, I realize that.
Fortunately, there are lots of ways to keep in touch nowadays.
Send them lots of these beautiful waltzes and other music, music can tell so many stories.
In this waltz I can hear the pain of losing on one hand and the hope for a better tomorrow on the other.
Enjoyed it.
