I'm not a prolific songwriter, rarely do I set out to write a song. As in, 'Today, I'm going to write a song.'

But, I did that very thing one day a few years back and ended up with this one. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for listening.

SONG SOMEWHERE

By Scott H. Olson
Copyright © 2002

I SAT DOWN THIS MORNING
WITH A PENCIL NICE AND SHARP
AND A CLEAN WHITE PIECE OF PAPER
NOW IT’S GETTING DARK

I TRIED EVERY CHORD
I SANG EVERY NOTE
AND I FILLED THE WASTE BASKET
WITH ALL THE TRASH I WROTE

Chorus

THERE’S A SONG AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE
SOMEWHERE I HAVEN’T LOOKED
IT MIGHT BE IN THE KITCHEN
WITH THE SUPPER I WAS S’POSED TO COOK
IN A SHOE BOX BURIED IN THE CLOSET
AMONG THE LETTERS KEPT IN THERE
I’LL JUST KEEP ON SEARCHING
‘TIL I FIND THAT SONG SOMEWHERE

WELL I’VE BEEN A COUPLE PLACES
AND I’VE DONE A COUPLE THINGS
AND I’VE TOLD A COUPLE STORIES
WITH THESE GUITAR STRINGS

YOU WOULD THINK SHOULD BE EASY
JUST TO TELL ONE MORE
SOMETIMES I GOT A WONDER
WHAT I DO THIS FOR

Repeat Chorus

‘TIL I FIND THAT SONG SOMEWHERE
THERE’S JUST GOTTA’ BE A SONG SOMEWHERE

Scott, Yeah Man! I really like this. Going back for another listen. Great lyrics and and great vocals. My only nit is the bass seemed light. I also really like the melody. Keep em coming. Tom
Hey Scott...

Yes sir...we're liking this a bunch. Di and I have thought this a bunch of times...where in the heck is that song we need?????

That mandolin and banjo are perfect! And when the acoustic guitar came in there for a couple bars...that was sweet, too!

I echo the thought that the bass line could come up a bit. It's so danged hard to get the volume and tone right on the acoustic bass...at least it is for me. But i think you'd be safe to bring it up a bit.

Great song, Scott! And your vocal shines! Thanks for the listening pleasure!

Thank you. I brought up the bass. Link in original post is newest version. Thanks for pointing that out. Hope it's better now.

Hi Scott,

nice tune, well sung and mixed.
Would have liked the lyrics printed out.

A very good tune, and well done all the way around!
Hi Scott. Like you I'm always looking around for inspiration that just doesn't come!! Love the mando in the into. I like the line "With the supper I was supposed to cook"

Nice track Scott. Clean and bouncy.

Regards,

Bob
Ain't that the truth....?

great song.

One thing I would look at is to perhaps look at reducing the time between some of the lines... it's a small thing.... I kept having the feeling throughout the song that the next line is coming in right...here.... nope.. ok there it is....

still loved it.
Scott,

A clever write. Nice production. Good vocals - really well recorded!
Very enjoyable.

floyd
Yes - we've all got a song somewhere. Trouble is, I can't remember where I put it! smile
Love the sense of exasperation that the song has. Amusing and heartfelt.
cheers

Very nice, I like this a lot. Anyone who has tried to write a song can relate to these lyrics. Super job on that, your mix and your vocal.
Clever and easy to relate to lyrics wrapped up with good vocals and a fine supporting mix. Thanks for the chance to listen!! BTW, at least you sit down to write. What few I get often come to me while mountain biking!

Thank you so much everyone for listening, for your kind words and for your suggestions.

I'm fairly partial to this one, and I was hoping it would appeal to the songwriter in you too.

I still can't get over how awesome it is to be able to take one of these songs and arrange it with these Real Tracks - simply amazing.

And it's so helpful to be able to listen to your mixes, to hear what's possible - sure makes a world of difference for me.

Take care everyone and thanks again.

Scott
I really like this concept. Very interesting idea. I sometimes feel that songs float around, like invisible fish, waiting to be snagged. Sometimes they come easy, sometimes they fight, and sometimes they nibble and tease for months or years. This is a really nice, thoughtful piece of work. Keep it up!! Greg

Hi Scott,

*clap clap clap*

That was really enjoyable. I really like the concept of telling stories with guitar stings.

Clever writing.

All the best,
Noel

Greg: Thank you for that. I hear 'ya. I often have a line, or a chorus, no verses, maybe one verse. If I 'work' at them I can usually make progress, but I don't always like working on them....

Hey Noel: Thank you for the applause! I like that line myself:)
much enjoyed!
+1 I think even Hank done it this way....LOL!

Great job.

Josie, Gruverider,

Appreciate the listen and your feedback very much. I got distracted and am tardy in responding. Take care.
