This is a song I (Al) I started 6 years ago but never could get it the way I wanted it; so I put in the "I Might Get Back To This In Times Of Desperation" file. I was playing it one day, thinking maybe a light bulb will go off...it didn't! Well, Di heard it and said, "Why don't you redo that with the new music program (BIAB) and I'll add my two cents' worth." So, I did, and made a few adjustments on the music. She put her magic voice to it and presto...a pretty danged good song! It's copyrighted 2011 because I never did anything with it for years.

The bass line needs to be a little louder and, maybe the strings need a little more punch, too. We're open to any other suggestions. Thanks!

Complete Surrender
© 2011 Alan D. David, BMI

(v1)
Burned by love some time ago
It’s hard to let my feelings show
Scars remain from that hurting time
My heart’s afraid to cross the line
But somehow you’ve broken through
Fixed my heart as good as new
But there’s still one thing you need to know

CHORUS
If I fall in love with you and offer you my heart
I hope you always… always will remember
It’s more than just… I love you
It’s everything I am
It’s complete surrender

(v2)
A simple lesson I have learned
A partial love gets no return
Give it all where love’s concerned
Any less is a heartache earned
Half a love can’t be redeemed
There can be no in between
If I fall in love, it’s everything

Glad to see you two back in the groove. Really enjoyed this, very nice chords/steps/transitions and awesome vocal, which is the norm:)

So, you know how it can be tough to find that second verse? You found it! Wow!

(I'm not sure about the low end and strings. I didn't notice anything out of place.)

Alan and Di...

Sweet! An excellent write! Like the classic love songs of the past.
Beautifully sung - believable, emotional...

Nice instrumentation and good mix. The strings are well done.

There can be no in between
If I fall in love, it’s everything"

Solid.

My new favorite of yours.

Hi Scott...

Thanks for the kind comments! And yep, 2nd verses can make or break a song. Glad this one works! Di appreciates the comment on her vocal. I'm so fortunate, beyond the obvious, to have a partner-wife who can sing like that! Thanks again!

Good Evening Floyd...

You are much too kind! We view you as one of the premiere composer/artists on this forum. Such high compliments are almost as sweet as a royalty check! We are humbled...thank you!

Al & Di

PS: that passage you quoted was actually some of the very first lines I wrote. I then wrote the rest of the song around them. Again, we thank you.

Good evening VT!

Thank you so much! And we're delighted you enjoyed the intro. we knew we wanted keys there but weren't sure which way to go, so we simply stayed with the acoustic piano we used in the remainder of the song.

Thank you for the visit and kind words!

Very nice song. Well sung and well played
Posted By: Janice & Bud Re: Complete Surrender - Featuring Di - 02/26/14 02:27 PM
I think the bass and the strings fit fine and the mix is very supportive of the emotive vocal.

Janice and I listen to a lot of music from the 30's and 40's -- Ella, Frank, Billie, Goodman's lead vocalists, etc., so a song like this reminds us of those classics and what it must have been like for this genre to have dominated radio and record sales.

You too have a genuine feel for the genre -- Di's vocal and the supporting production are in the pocket. Y'all are hitting the note. Great job!

I also think that this is Di’s best to date. She was very expressively melodic and in fact she reminded me of Etta James.

Everything is perfect in this one and you two should be very proud of this.

Hi Al and Di,

Di, gosh I like your singing. There's something in your tone that's wonderfully warm and inviting. I'm also a great fan of the way you take a vocal line and sprinkle it with a dash of blues. Very, very nice.

I have to say that the arrangement of this song is Professional all the way (uppercase 'P' intentional). The choice of instruments and chords provides a terrific sonic canvas on which Di paints her vocals. I might be wrong but I thought I heard a few tasty IVm chords. These are not all that common in today's music but they can certainly add a really nice touch when employed discreetly.

"Complete Surrender" is a great listen.

More please!

Very nice song, professionally written, nice changes, and captures the mood of the lyric. I felt I was at a wedding during the 70's and the band was playing a Karen Carpenter song, slow dancing with my best girl.

Di's hummingbird vibrato and on-the-money intonation - I still can't get over it. Very nice tune, good changes. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Hope all is well.
