Composed and arranged by Aleck Rand with my user-created BIAB style DNFNK.

What occupies the space between one nano-second and the next? And what does that have in common with lovers who really aren't sure about each other, or, for that matter, where your dental floss goes? The answer:

Love it, really like the bass, the horns sound like they need a tad more verb to fit in with the rest of the mix, this is outstanding work. Thanks for sharing!

Dean, you are the Dr of Funk. That is some nasty slap bass. Guitar lead = killer chops. Nice fade out. Everything is great about this one. Tremendous work. Tom

Dean,

Nice frantic guitar solo, fits well.

I like the repeated lick that fades at the end. Nice touch.

'Funky and sophisticated' someone said on Soundcloud...Amen!

The bass is way cool and as always the guitar work blows my mind.

Thanks so much Olemon,

A supreme compliment from you and the SoundCloud commentator. To be sure, I love Funk/SmoothJazz, but I'm not too keen on those tunes that start out with a superfunky bass/rhythm line and then run on just one chord. What I wanted to do was add the slick changes that make it not so obvious how to solo. I hope I succeeded to some degree.

Dean,

Love the percussions and bass line on this funky bit of splendor! And then that mean guitar! Holy smokes...this smokes! A little funk in the trunk along with the junk! Great stuff!!!!!

Hi Guenter,

I'm glad you liked it. Yes, that's me on bass but inside a style I created so that my thumb would not require the services of a hand surgeon. In order to build up the proper callous, you have to be playing that style constantly, but I rarely do. First I tried band-aids over the knuckle of the thumb but I could never get used to the feeling.

Thank you for the kind words my friend.

Mike, amigo -

Thanks, man. My personal ambulance just arrived with the hand surgeon. Shouldn't take too many stitches to close over the exposed tendon in my thumb. Yeh, piece o' cake. Later.

Hi Al and Di,

I hope all is well. Thank you for the kind words. Given the disclaimer right up front, I'm still working up the nerve to listen to your latest but I'll do it... gulp...

Hey Dan, and welcome to the Forum.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I plan on doing more of this kind of thing as I work my way through being a recovering jazz guitarist.

Alyn,

I never thought anyone would notice that last lick on the fadeout. Thank you for doing so. Glad you liked the tune.

your guitar work here is nothing short of other-worldly outstanding!!!

no clichéd licks, and no rambling, self-indulgent riffing. every lick is pocket-perfect and tasteful

extremely difficult to pull off!

Bravo!

Gruverider:

Such a supreme compliment. I'm not sure I've ever mentioned the idea of "lick-less" playing as the terminal goal of every improviser, but you've given me a hint that I might be getting close. Of course, I got a bag of tricks (licks) but it's getting smaller.

Thank you.
