Hello everyone,

Thanks for the very enthusiastic responses to our first post "London town".
This is the second one called "Memories remain".

Here's the link:

http://youtu.be/NBlwI9IASsM

Every now and then the Melodist comes up with a nice tune (and name). "Lyrically heroic" in this case. It was generated in the Altfolk style - Swing 16th Country with a tempo of 85 beats per minute.
We liked the initial results, but decided to only use the bass, guitar and strings miditracks (no real tracks were used in this song).
The song was exported as a midi file for further editing in Cubase where special guitar and bass guitar soundfonts were loaded.
The song tempo was speeded up a bit and finally Rob added some guitar licks and a solo on his Squier electric guitar
And so came the second part: creating a proper singing line and lyrics.
Considering this arrangements folky atmosphere, we thought it should be about things happening in a small town. To be more specific: a small-town crime that was committed by a few men who are still haunted by these events today. Hence the name: "Memories remain".
As usual, Anne-Marie did all of the video editing (all footage resides in the public domain).

We hope you like our second contribution to this very friendly and stimulating forum.

Regards,
R & AM

Enjoyed the video and song. Thanks for posting.

I have also found the Melodist feature helpful in developing new songs.

Charlie

Really interesting music, feel, and subject matter. I like the departure from the usual subject matter of songs-love, social injustice, etc. Very interesting and cool work! Keep it up. Greg

Hi Günther,
Thanks for these nice comments.
We came across Mariëtta's song while browsing your Soundcloud account.
That's a very original combination of Reggae, Jazz and Opera.
About the opera vocal, was that just a solo vocal track, or did you filter out the rest of the accompaniment?
Tjuss,
Rob und Anne-Marie

The lead and harmony vocals are wonderful, tight, the guitar as well. Professional sound on the mix too. Well done all around.

Hello everyone,
This might be a nice tip for those who want a good free alternative for BiaB's built in Coyote Synth.
You can download the Magic Soundfont (which gives a very full and natural sound) for free here:

ftp://ftp.personalcopy.net/pub/MagicSFver2.zip

You can load the soundfont with the following 2 programs.
Windows 8: Coolsoft virtual synth.
http://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth

Windows 7:
http://www.kode54.net/bassmididrv/

We use this soundfont a lot, for instance in our song London Town.
The soundfont can easily be edited and improved with other seperate soundfonts on the internet.
You can use the programm Viena for this, you can download this one and other interesting programms here:
http://www.synthfont.com/Downloads.html

There is a downside though,if you want to export midi tracks in BiaB, the only way to do this is using the Coyote Synth.
To export the arrangement as WAV using the Magic Soundfont you will need a different method.
You will need to record the arrangement in real time with a programm such as Soundtap (not free).

We hope this might be helpful,
regards,
Rob & Anne-Marie

I love your sound. Reminiscent of early Folk Rock. Nicely done.

Very nice production, thank you for paying attention to the master bus as the mix holds up quite well at all levels.

I noticed you use a combo that I just discovered was causing my Biab 2014 to hang a while on opening. I removed the fonts by mistake when cleaning out my hd, then the Coolsoft virtual synth threw an error loading message in bb and so I unhooked it from the pref and it loads up faster.

Also I use from time to time Voxengo Recorder free in my daw works in 32bit only.

Keep them coming!

Hello DA,

Are you using Windows 8?
If not, bass midi driver is probably a better alternative for coolsoft.
It operates faster, and doesn't seem to cause any crashes in BIAB, even with no soundfont loaded.

We will check out voxengo recorder free, we already have some other plug-ins of them.
What DAW are you using by the way?
