I have remixed and given "February Snow" it's original title back - "Seventh Skin".
I rerecorded the vocal with my new toy, a Sure SM7b. I love this mic!!!
I added drums, changed the ending, and remixed the whole thing.
If you have heard it already and care to take a second listen comments are welcome.
If you have not heard it I hope you like it.

It is all Realtracks.
Lawrence,
Wow. Talk about raising the bar!
Your stuff is always good. But, man! You are blowing the roof off, here. Stunning. Incredible use of RealTracks. Please list them. And the effects you have added.
Have always loved your vocals - but there is an added intimacy to this - and it sits in the mix SO well.
And a killer song.
Just WOW! All over the place. Going back for more...
floyd
Thank you Floyd! I don't know if you've worked with the SM7b mic but it is the bomb! You can practically eat it for the softer parts then back off a few inches when you need to raise your voice for intensity.

I have Guitar Rig 5 on the 377 some crunch and echo for lead, and a chorus stereo spread on the 542 for rhythm (which I side-chained compressed to the vocal for clarity).
and Ozone5 all over the place
Great production, great feel, great vocal!! Really love the gritty feel. I've been thinking of getting an SM7 myself-thinking about it more seriously now! Great work! Take care. Greg
Super clever to put the Guitar Rig and echo on the resonator.
Stating here and now - officially... I'm stealin' THAT!!!
And... forgot to mention - the strings at the end ... CLASSY!
Great job and excellent vocals. I really enjoyed this one.
Charlie
Love the drama of the lyrics and the dynamics of the song. Great vibe. Feels a bit like 'riders of the storm'. Careful what you wish for. Subtle ending. Cheers.
Greg, I put off buying the Sm7b for far too long.
Floyd, you're welcome for the f/x (I enjoy "destroying" a sound when I can), lol! and the strings were a part of the first version and then I cut them at the last minute
c_fogle, thanks for listening
RichMac, glad you liked it
Lawrence,
Love the
atmosphere in this one. It screams "film opening".
p.s. I always loved your movies as well. Never knew you did music too.
Regards,
Bob
p.p.s. What preamp did you use with the Sm7b?
Lawrence, I agree with Bob, atmosphere of a film opening. Great use and editing of real tracks. Fantastic vocal. Solid write. You have obviously put some time in this. The end product is superb. Tom
Hi, Lawrence !
This is just fantastic !
This is my favorite Lawrence tune henceforth
WOW What a sound and super vocals !
Cheers
Dani
Bob, thanks for listening. I got too old for the acting gig and switched over to songwriting and recording. Less standing that way, easier on the bones.
I record through a Behringer X2442 into an RME Babyface AD converter. I use some compression on the Behringer console.
Tom, thank you, glad it struck a chord with you.
dani, I'm happy to hear it's you're favorite!
I remember this...that 'I circle from above' lyric really grabbed me this time too:)
So, you already know I like the song, but your performance and production put this one on a pedestal. Take a bow.
olemon, thanks for listening, again.
Lawrence, this tune oughta be on Americana radio. You ever listen to Slaid Cleaves? Not doing the comparo thing...just that the delivery and lyric remind us of his music. Sm7b or whatever, your vocal is dynamite -- not only the clarity but your tone. It just nails this song. As mentioned the RT's are perfect and all is mixed to perfection. Then throw in great lyric and you have a helluva package. Bravo!
J&B
Lawrence,
what everybody else said! I'm always a sucker for effects, and you used 'em sooo well on this song!
But above all that I think you are a very creative song writer. You not only conceive good ideas, you also do a stellar job of actualizing what's in your head.
Or maybe it wasn't in your head until you got it recorded... sometimes your songs seem like you create them in real time, letting the song happen in stream of consciousness style.
But, whatever your technique might be, it sure works! I have yet to hear a song from you that didn't absolutely knock my socks off
That was a cool song and well done.
Loved it.... and yeah... what they said.
Using the sim on the reso is sweet.... I heard a steel player use a fuzz and it sounded like a synth back in the early days of synths... think ELP.
Hello Gruverider,
We truly enjoyed this song. Unbelievable!
We agree completely with Floyd about 'raising the bar '.
Great use of realtracks, great lyrics and a great voice!
Regards,
R & AM
+1
Super sound and I like the new title better too.
Josie
Janice&Bud, thank you. I suppose we all wish we could hear one of our tunes on the radio. I don't know if you guys have but I have not, so thank you for that vote of confidence.
Pat, thank you. I have written lyrics and music many different ways, but yes, I do sort of let the melody or chords just come along as the wish. Sometimes it's a simple 1,4,5 progression and that's okay with me. Other times I force my left hand to reach for something different.
Guitarhacker, thanks, I love mixing colors around in the palette.
R&AM, thank you very much for the kind words
Sundance, thank you, I tried to force a re-write onto this song from the title to the chorus. In the end I just left my original "flow" alone, and put it all back together again.
Hi Lawrence,
great atmosphere, construction and mix.
And a tremendous voice.
Like it a lot.
Guenter
