Questions

I tucked in my boy Kissed him good-night
Stood by the doorway turned out the light
A small voice in the darkness stopped me in my tracks
my son has a question got to go back – and it's

where does the light go when you turn off the switch
what do I see with my eyes shut
why do things grow and what makes the snow
why cant I breathe under-water

I sat down on his bed thought for a while
I scratched my head and said with a smile
No-one knows the answers to all of these queries
You'll hear some strange stories and fanciful theories - and it's

where does the light go when you turn off the switch
what do I see with my eyes shut
why do things grow and what makes the snow
why cant I breathe under-water

Allow all these mysteries to be something to see
in your mind as you slide into slum – ber
Then when you a-wake theres a path you will take
- into wonder

where does the light go when you turn off the switch
what do I see with my eyes shut
why do things grow and what makes the snow
why cant I breathe under-water

Nice work! You always have some great lyrical ideas. It might be interesting to put different questions into each chorus, although that's of course unconventional. Enjoyable listen! Take care. Greg

Thanks Greg. That would be a good idea and would allow the song to expand considerably. Cheers.

My goodness Rich I just love the lyrical directions your songs take. Isn't the harmony thing in RB a wonderful thing?

There are just somethings we are not meant to understand.

Loved it.

You're a fountain of cool and different lyrics. The lucky ones amongst us retain the childhood wonderment you so ably expressed. Nice!!

Thanks Joanne. The harmony thing is great. Must play with it some more. I think there are more questions than answers. Cheers.

Thanks Guenter. So much to explore . So many toys to play with. Cheers.

Jan and Bud. Thanks for the lovely comments. People keep telling some of us (well me anyway) to grow up, but hell, what's the rush. I'm only 73. Cheers.

smile 68 here and my wife who's 12 years younger tells me "never grow up - it's a trap!"

Thanks Gruverider. Glad you liked it. The harmonizer certainly supports the vocals and i will explore it further. That's almost the last of the songs from FAWM and I'm looking forward to doing some new ones. Cheers.

Thanks Dani for your very generous comments. Cheeers.

it's a path we take every time we click on one of your songs!

Your songs are a joy to listen to...

I'm a fan.

Good song. Easy to relate to. I've just started playing with RB recently and hadn't found the harmonizer yet myself.

Charlie

Hi Rich,

As everyone else has already said, fantastic work with the lyric!

Also, someone else mention a different set of questions for each successive chorus. In Folk & Country music, that's not common but also not unusual. They're referred to as an "Evolving Chorus". I've used that technique on at least half a dozen songs I've written in that past few years. But, I digress.

That was a wonderful listen ... still have a smile on my face. Great stuff, my friend!

Fabulous comment Floyd. Thanks so much. Now if I could just learn to do productions like yours! Cheers.

Thanks Charlie. I do 90% of the song in Real Band. Have learned to use only a few of it's features and keep finding new ones. Actually those are questions I've always wondered about. Cheers.

Thanks Al. The evolving chorus is such a good idea. Could certainly lead the song to new places. Delighted to give you a smile. Cheers.

Rich, I L-O-V-E this!!!

A chorus with one inner rhyme and a song with lyrics that made my jaw drop and left me wanting more. Another super surprise.

Vocals, mix, production, excellent!

Thanks Scott for your generous comments. Delighted to suprise you! The light/awareness question will always fascinate me. When conditions are right it just appears then under different conditions it just disappears. Cheers.

Hi Patrick. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment. Cheers.
