Hello fellow Band in a Boxers: Here is another new tune-not sure if I'll re-record or just remix but needs a few tweaks (at least). This song was inspired by the Irish folk waltz or something like that title. I loved the acoustic guitar and the Irish vibe. I believe almost all song topics have been written. We all write about the same things, except maybe Steely Dan who always have a unique perspective-Black Friday (about a stock market crash), Chained Lightning (the Nazis), Katy Lied (addiction). Anyway, I realized tonite that this is my version of End of the Innocence by Don Henley (one of the best in my view). "Somewhere back there in the dust, that same small town in each of us". This is about the "small town" in me-maybe just about the past.
On another topic, I have had issues with a static kind of sound and popping on playback with Pro Tools. Any advice on how to correct it (and maintain what's left of my sanity) would be much appreciated. Take care. Greg
P.S. Will post lyrics and other details soon.

Pretty song Greg. Thanks for posting it.

Hi there Greg,
Beautiful song, well written, and a good vocal.
I love that guitar picking real track, it's the same one we used on our Three Minute Waltz.
Speaking of Don Henley, I love this song: The Heart of the Matter (unplugged version). I believe it is from the same album?
Regards,
Rob
Hi Greg
Another quality number - you never disappoint
Really enjoy the vocals
Thanks for sharing
Trevor
Hi Greg,
nice song and beautifully sung.
Enjoyed it.
Guenter
"Spiritual gravity gone in a flash
No place for a soul to attach."
NICE!
Beautiful song. Wonderful writing. Wonderful delivery.
The production is really nice. Never boring and never in the way.
Terrific work, Greg.
floyd
Good song and production. I'm really enjoying your work.
Charlie
Greg, I am becoming a huge fan of your writing and your vocals. Just a phenomenal job! Tom
Hi, Greg !
This is just wonderful !
It must be one of your best.
To me it is my fav. Gregsong
for now !:))
Cheers
Dani
Beautiful song Greg. Sounds great.
I don't use Pro Tools but in most DAWs if you have pops and crackles check your buffer settings - higher usually works best so I'd try that first but sometimes lower does. You'll have to experiment until you find the perfect setting for your (soundcard)interface.
Josie
Hi Greg. Love the lyrics and the wistful quality in your voice. Tastefully done! Like 'where the evil flew'. Cheers.
That was really nice. Haunting. Reminds me of the vibe of the tunes in Ken Burns Civil War series. Beautiful tune
Hey Greg, this is really very nice... everything is done well. I have to tell you, your vocals are REALLY nice. You picked a very good style for this one. VERY NICE and definitely enjoyable!
Pretty, reflective song. Your singing reminds me of Sting's Field of Gold (?).
Hey, let us know which real tracks/percussion you used -- I want to use them all on one of my as yet unwritten songs!
Nice vocals and song construction, it all fits together. It is my belief, unsupported by any logic at all, that if you have full instrumentation in a song, you also need backing vocals here and there (even if just oohs and aahhs). That's my story and I am sticking with it.
Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
Hi Greg,
What a pretty song! And your lyric is beyond fantastic! What a pleasure this was to listen to. you have talent, my friend! It's a real treat when we click onto one of your songs. Nest to ya ...
Alan & Di
Another fine production Greg. You have a consistency that I
much admire with the inventiveness of your lyrics...and this
song is no exception. It's most been said above.
I think the strongest aspect of your music is that your
voice works so well with your lyrics. A good voice and
a good lyric does not always equal a great production but
you have that ability to make them work together exceptionally
well.
Another good one!!
Thanks so much Bob, Guenter, and Trevor for you kind words.
THanks Rob. Yes, you are right, The Heart of the Matter is on the same CD. I believe there is a very small intersection of what it good and what is popular, and that song (along with some of Don's other work) occupy that space. I am a huge fan of his.
Take care. Greg
THanks for the nice compliment Floyd. I'm really glad you liked that lyric. I was questioning if it was too abstract or unclear. It was great to have validation on that.
Thanks Charlie and Dani. Very much appreciate your comments.
Thanks for the encouragement Tom. Looking forward to listening to your new one within the next few hours!
Take care all, Greg
Josie, Thanks for the nice words. Good to hear from you again. Thanks for the advice on the static-I'll try it!
Richmac, Thanks for the compliment. I always enjoy your interesting and truly creative lyrics. Much appreciate your support
Patrick, Thanks for the compliment. I'm not familiar with the Civil War series but will have to google it.
Take care all! Greg
Mike, welcome to the forum. Am enjoying your stuff, and thanks for the nice compliment. Really appreciated!!
Jim, having vocals compared to Sting is an incredible compliment. Thanks so much!
Kevin, thanks for the nice words. I will post the lyrics and instruments tonite.
Take care all! Greg
Alan and Di, one of the greatest compliments I've ever received. Your words mean a lot to me! Keep up the great work.
Janice and Bud, always appreciative of your positive vibe on the forum and the kindness you have always shown. Looking forward to hearing your new one in a bit!
Take care. Greg
Here are the lyrics. I used 1815 (acoustic, fingerpicking, Celtic) and 1178 (Pop waltz bass). The cello was from Miroslav library. I always use the same plugins for ballads: 1) Puigchild compression, 2) Manny Marroquin EQ, 3) Manny Marroquin reverb, 4) Aphex plugin, and either 5)NLS or 6) Redd, all from Waves. THanks for listening and for your kind and thoughtful comments. Take care. Greg
GREEN GREEN GRASS
Sometimes I find my heart longin’ for my native land
Where a promise was sealed in the shake of a hand
Intentions were noble and spirits were clean
And the sun shone on grasses so greeg
Take me back there my brother
To the place we knew
Where be believed in each other
Where the eagle flew
Got to find that connection
To the ghost of my past
There in the land of the green, green grass
In the blink of an eye, it seemed the tides had all turned
And the earth ‘neath my feet, no longer stable nor firm
Spiritual gravity gone in a flash
No place for a soul to attach
Take me back….
Oh, lord, where did it go?
I can’t find the fire in this great field of snow
Take me back…
Hi Greg.
Wonderful song, beautifully sung.
I wouldn't change anything.
ROG.
Sorry Greg! Where the eagle flew. Not where the evil flew. Whoops. Cheers.
