Our new song:

Serenade for Jessica

This is the first (or second) song we created with BIAB and it's one of my personal favorites. Bear with us till the end of the song, it's got sort of a "suite" there.
I played around with the melodist and it came up with a very nice chord progression, rather complex too.
Next it was quite a challenge for Anne-Marie and me to create a singing line that would really add something extra.
Especially since the arrangement contains modulations that we didn't notice at first glance.
The next challenge was to create proper lyrics, this was quite a struggle actually, but after some brainstorming/soul-searching we finally managed (well, we hope..).

used real tracks (from memory because we accidentally deleted the song file frown )

522 guitar acoustic fingerpicking ev120
365 guitar acoustic figure picking ev85
366 bass electric country ev065
Nashville Even8 09A

Guitar solos on my Squier Strat.

lyrics:

Serenade for Jessica

without her love I'd surely hide
wandering the night in restless strides
I used to lay it down so simply
moving freely side-by-side

reveal the long forgotten dream
showing what I could have been
an image that I can't forget
remembering all the things she said

but every time you walked beside me
you never really let me in
keeping me at a distance
instead of giving in

in all my craving for perfection
I left her feelings far behind
never really knowing
what made me try to climb that high

if loneliness is what defines me
and the truth is what I cannot see
and though she'll always be appealing
she will not belong to me

but every time you walked beside me
you never really let me in
keeping me at a distance
instead of giving in

Hope you like it!
As always, comments are welcome.

Regards,
Rob

R&AM, I will be back for several more listens. A fantastic chord progression and great vocals as usual. I really like your guitar playing and how it sits in the mix. If you ever go back and revisit, you might move the electric part including the count in back four beats. I think it would come in earlier for a better transition. However it is fine work as it stands. Tom

A lovely weaving of musical elements and interesting video. The instrumental after the vocals caught me by surprise. Very very nice. Cheers.

Really pretty music, and very unusual and cool changes! Very nice work all around (production, performance, writing)! Were some of your recent posts written before or are you guys just that prolific? Another quality production! Take care. Greg

+1 to the above. I love the 'second movement' - a great idea.

Great progression and love the guitar solo! It puts me in a nostalgic mood as it reminds me of the prog rock (maybe Moody Blues?) of the 70's with it's chord changes and changes in dynamics.

much enjoyed!

Thank you, PGFantastic, Guenter, Charlie, RichMac, Gibson, Dani and Lawrence

Tommy, you're probably right about the timing of the 'suite' part.
At the time this seemed logical, but in retrospect we probably should have set it in for beats earlier.

Greg, some of the songs were written before, others just very recently. And of course there is much more to come. This wonderful forum is such a great stimulation to keep on writing!

Floyd, the YouTube error message happens sometimes. We get this occasionally with videos of other people. Usually it works to try it again on another day. Let us know as soon as you viewed the video.

R & AM

still getting this:

Cool tune. Kind of like some of the folk bands of the day.

I liked both parts....

One nit, and I may have mentioned this on a previous review. The vox, the female vox in particular seems a bit muffled....like you rolled off the high end to avoid sibilance kind of a thing. The male vox were OK, could have stood a slight brightening but nothing major.... kick the highs up a bit on the female vox next time around.

Floyd, Are you using Firefox by any chance?
I've done some googling, this appears to be a well known issue.
Can you open it in Internet Explorer?

Is anybody else having the same problem?

Interesting idea for a duet. I also liked the build at the end.

Okay, well let's hope it's just a one-time thing then....
you didn't have this problem with our other videos.
It's probably best if we also upload a copy to soundcloud in the future.
