Friday 5-Pack

JonD came over a few weeks ago and said let's do something really different. So we did a jazz piece with a smooth 50's sound against a 5/4 time signature with a couple of free jazz style bridges.

We used Biab style Even 5/4 meter - About time.

The drums were modified during the free jazz style bridges and the ending but the rest is straight from BiaB.

The strings were changed to a pad sound.

We deleted the rest of the tracks and replaced them as follows:
JonD is playing the EP rhythms and the Vibe leads.

I am playing the bass, rhythm and lead guitar parts. I am also playing the Tenor sax part via my wind controller.

This may not be your cup of tea but we had fun doing this!

That was some good stuff. Kudos on that sax and the nice light guitar runs ( and all that jazz) !

Mario,

Any music written and played well, regardless of genre, is our cup of tea.

There's so much to like about this one. Very original and nicely put together. Loved the minimalistic approach on the guitar. It's so easy to overplay, but you were spot on. Rather than run down the long list of accolades (there are many), may we simply say ... "A wonderful, creative piece of ear candy"? We loved it!!!!!

Nice work chaps. I can't think in 5/4 let alone play in it!
I like the sax and guitar tones and the angular nature of the piece drew me in.

Thanx to all whom listened and left those very nice comments. I wasn't sure how this one was going to get received, as it is a little different than most songs posted.

David and Di, it is interesting that you mentioned overplaying the guitar part. In fact my first take was way to busy for the song. JonD liked it but I hated it, even after I changed everything else to match that lead. Once I played this lead on the guitar then added the sax JonD was on board with it.

Thanx all again for listening and commenting, it is much appreciated.

Smooth Mario! 5 always reminds me of Brubeck. I really like to listen to most types of music. It seems to open your head to creativity within your main genre'. I liked everything about this one. Learned something along the way. Never knew how versatile the wind controller could be. Was reading about it on wiki while listening to your fine use of it. Nice brudda! Thanks a lot. Now I will have to go out and buy one. Sheesh.

I love 5/4, just don't know why. Nice job and the fact that you had a good time shines through. I love the breakdown of the chorus.

much enjoyed!

That is so cool. I'll never forget the first time I heard 5/4 time. Dave Brubek for some weird reason was booked at the Atlanta Pop Festival in '69 or '70 and, of course, played take five. You gotta wonder being on a bill with Janis Joplin...but the crowd including me loved it.

Thanks for the memories!!
