I have been out of pocket for a few months now, due to work and health reasons. But tomorrow is my youngest grandchild's birthday. She will be 2 years old. I actually wrote this song 3 years ago, but I have redone it for this occasion. All the instruments are RT/RD, with some strings, organ, and percussion thrown in by me. I hope you enjoy it!

In Between The Rhythm And The Rhyme
Copyright Stephen W. Young

There's a little girl making eyes at me
She's wanting my attention
Wanting me to see what she can do
Yesterday when she waa two

On a Saturday at the football field
A pretty girl is cheering
And every now and then her team will win
Yesterday when she was ten

In between the rhythm and the rhyme
There's so much more to life if you just take the time
I wouldn't trade for all the things that you can find
In between the rhythm and the rhyme

A young man smiles nervously at me
He's wanting my permission
To take away my pretty little girl
And turn around my whole world

In between the rhythm and the rhyme
There's so much more to life if you just take the time
I wouldn't trade for all the things that you can find
In between the rhythm and the rhyme
(Repeat Chorus)

A little girl is making eyes at me
She's wanting my attention
Wanting me to see what she can do
I can't believe she's almost two

Have a great day!

Steve
I've also reached the point in life I am enjoying grandchildren so this song reverberated with me. Very well written and performed and it held my attention from beginning to end. At 2:12 point in the song where you begin the line, " I wouldn't trad a thing..." my eyes drifted down the Soundcloud page to another song title that read " A million moons over Hawaii". That struck me as an appropriate and quite coincidental metaphor for that particular moment in the song as I immediately said to myself " I know I wouldn't trade my grandchildren for a million moons over Hawaii.

Loved your song.

Steve welcome back and I pray that your health issues are gone.

You really hit the jackpot for your encore! This is a fantastic song. Your mix, instrumentation, vocals, and your lyrics are spot on!

I can relate to part of this song as our baby girl turned 34 last May! But no grandchildren as all three of our kids are single. I come from a long line of single people on both sides of my family! I am the weird one..........in more ways than one!

Steve, always glad to see you around here. I, like the others have grandchildren that are growing up too fast. I hope we all can slow down enough to enjoy them. I remember this one from the first time around. This one has your signature stellar mix and the vocals are nothing short of fantastic. All the best, Tom

What they all said and what a hook! No grandkids here but I see the joy they bring friends and family all the time. Just a fine production in ALL aspects.

Steve,

Your productions are always so interesting. Being able to fit a SW guitar solo - a waltz, no less - into all the EV is impressive. The "hint of wedding organ" with a single chord - also impressive!

Your vocals (and harmonies) are always so "in the pocket" and "comfortable".

Loved the ending.

Always glad to see your name pop up! Come hang out with us when you can...

Hi Steve,

Welcome back!

I clearly remember listening to this song when you posted it before. I can't believe it was 3 years ago! I'm definitely feeling old now.

It's really great that you're posting again. When it comes to ideas about arrangement and production, you are the leader in this forum! I love hearing what you do and it inspires me no end. This latest post of yours is just as inspirational. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

All the best,
Noel
