Hello everyone,

Our new song:

Dream that's gone

I wrote this song when I was 19. It was one of the first songs I wrote when I started playing guitar. Not exactly top notch songwriting in those days, but with Band in a Box in the game and Anne-Marie on backing vocals I can now finally get away with it :-) (almost).

Style is _SHINSYN.STY (Praise&Worship Shing w Synth Pad)

RealTracks in style: 1255:Bass, Electric, PopShiningA-B Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 1264:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm PopShiningA-B Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 1259:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopShiningRockA-B Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 1267:Synth Pad, PopShiningA-B Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 1705:Guitar, Electric, Soloist CountryBrent Ev 085
RealTracks in song: 377:Guitar, Resonator, Background Trav Ev 088
RealDrums in style: PraiseWorshipShine^03-a:Kick, HiHat , b:Snare, HiHat Slightly Open

Thanks for listening, any comments are welcome.

Rob

Lyrics:

come see through the rain
don't look back to the goal
the answer my friend

and the places you've been
they mark the end of the goal
and never trying again

it's the innocence I know,
of a shining face that's turned to wise
why keep on searching for a dream
mmmm dream, dream that's gone

hard to live from day to day
though it seemed so right in the past
for my present has gone

could love ever come again
it seems unreal but so they say
it'll happen now and then

it takes a while until you see
just what it is you miss
why keep on searching for a dream
mmmm dream, dream that's gone

This is a good tune. Nice lyrics and melody. Great job on the harmonies.

I like it! It really captures a sad, wistful feeling.

And, excellent job on the production and vocal - as usual.

Darned you folk setting the bar so high for us mere mortals! grin

Rob and Anne Marie,

What a video to compliment a very enjoyable song.
We all are still searching for that dream.

I can only say beautiful vocals, harmonies and the solo was perfect.

Keep them coming

No nits here...no matter how long ago you wrote it...
My earlier writes shall stay buried! But I certainly
did my share of dream searching in the 60's.

So...another song that maintains your consistently
high arrangement and production standards. The
mix sounds spot on via my monitors and the
vocals sit just right in it all and are nicely done.

A very nice one to enjoy our morning coffee
over!

Hi David,

Wistful=having or showing a feeling of vague or regretful longing.
We just 'Googled' it :-)
We're glad that we managed to 'trigger' those kind of feelings.....

So.... it turns out that Rob is getting away with his juvenile song after all ;-)

Rob & Anne-Marie...

This is very well done.

The Production and mix are perfect. Each instrument sits right where it should. The vocals and harmonies are wonderful. It is so very enjoyable to hear your music. The lyric is a bit too esoteric for my taste. But all that surrounds it is super.

I do enjoy your songs. Y'all show BIAB off the way that it should be done....

There's so much to like here. For starters, it always impresses me how you manage to make a pre-created style of a computer software sound like a completely tailor made thing intended just for your songs.
And as for the age of the composition, I agree with what's already been stated. I myself wrote what I consider still to be my best work over 20 years ago.
If it's good, it's good! cool

That's a strong song, with your signature modulations which I always love! Vocals as usual are perfect. A well crafted piece guys.

Agree with John, I liked this one a lot - hooky chorus and good arrangement that showcases your vocals well.

Hi Rob and Anne-Marie,

As is often true, we're really late to this party. Everything has been said that stuck with us as we listened. what we enjoyed the most was the key modulation. Key changes always refresh a song and give it a new energy.

We loved everything about it! Excellent! best to you ...

Your use of BB & RB shows exactly what can be accomplished with this program.

Excellent job.

R & AM, This is a very well written piece and still holds up today. You certainly have a good handle on the software. The production sounds excellent. The vocals are up to your usual high standards. I especially liked the opening dobro part. Once again you've hit the mark. Tom

Probably a bit less polished and sophisticated than your newer stuff but still a solid write! And very well produced and performed to boot. Enjoyed the listen! Take care. Greg

Hi Alyn,

Thanks for your nice comments.
Glad you also liked the video, it's always a challenge for me to create a suitable video for each new song (almost every week crazy )

Hi Floyd,

Glad you liked the song.
The lyrics then.... well, the initial lyrics Rob created about 20 years ago, were about his first 'real' whistle girlfriend, therefore not really good ....
So, I had to do some serious editing and added the dream concept laugh. That may be the reason the final result has become kinda esoteric.

Anne-Marie

Hi Icelander (is this your real name by the way, or just a nick?)

Thanks for your kind words.
In some cases it's really worth to redo some old songs with Biab, although we prefer to write new songs with it, because it's such an easy tool to use.

Hi Alan and Di,

Thanks a lot.
Indeed modulations add something to a song.
By the way.... how's Di at the moment?

Thank you Tom!
Yes we also thought the dobro added a little extra to the intro (the original intro was kinda boring).

Hi Rob and Anne-Maria,

As I've come to anticipate with everything you do, the music is arranged and mixed with an outstanding flair and a professional understanding of how to achieve the very best in audio. Both of your vocals are terrific and complement the arrangement perfectly. It's a huge round of applause from me.

It would seem to be just me, but this time around, the lyrics didn't pull me into the mix. I found that I was concentrating so hard on trying to understand the meaning behind them that I stopped focusing on the music. When I realised that, I simply listened to the overall sound and didn't pay attention to the words so much. The music was a wonderful journey.

I have to say that your mixes are amongst the best here in the forum.

Regards,
Noel

Hello Noel,

thank you, once again!
Well these lyrics have taken a turn from a relatively simple 'love song' kind of theme to a 'lost dreams in life' kind of theme. This may seem kind of confusing. The lyrics were also adjusted to the video (which was created by Anne-Marie, besides that, the initial lyrics (I wrote about 20 years ago) weren't about much, and not exactly top-notch, to put it mildly whistle

Anyway, we really appreciate your loyal support!
Next week I'll be posting a song about 'aging', and those lyrics will definitely make more sense ;-)

regards,
Rob

I couldn't say it any better. Great vocals, lyrics, and backing tracks combined with a pro sounding mix make it a winner in my book.
