Josie (Sundance) posted a link to an avett brothers live oncert on yahoo last night. It reminded me of a song I wrote using I and Love and you as a template (ghost writing). It is over four years old, but what the heck:

*****************************************
We Chose The Road
(c) Emmrich 2011

(verse)
Start the car and check the map
You drive first and we can chat
gas tanks full and oil's checked
take a right and then two lefts

(chorus 1)
We chose the road or did it choose us
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference
when adventures of life we come across
ya know it’s hard to not feel lost

(verse)
Past the fields and through small towns
there are many roads we'll never go down
I wonder what lies at the end of them
Do you turn around or's there another bend

(chorus 2)
We chose the road or did it choose us
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference
I tell you things, but it’s not what I say
it's the silence in-between the phrase

(bridge)
I wonder when it all comes clear
is it now, tomorrow or never?
I can shake my fist, rant and rave
or just enjoy the time together

(chorus 1 again)
We chose the road or did it choose us
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference
when adventures of life we come across
ya know it’s hard to not feel lost

(tag)
Start the car and check the map
Let’s get going, I feel trapped
take a left and another right
let’s go ‘til our past is out of sight.

Kevin: Vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar
BIAB: bass, drums, percussion, acoustic guitars, piano, banjo

Nice work Kevin. I loved the lyrics and your sincere delivery. I liked the arrangement as well: the choice of instruments and when they enter and exit is just the ticket. Well done that man!

Hi Kevin,

nice one. Interesting vocal delivery.
Nice arrangement.

Hi Kevin,
Love the song, it has that ambient atmosphere that draws me into the feel of the song. Found the banjo a little bit to dominant in the first part.
Looking forward to hear more of you

Kevin this is super!

I love these lines: " when adventures of life we come across
ya know it’s hard to not feel lost" and " take a left and another right
let’s go ‘til our past is out of sight." Super lyrics!

Everything about this is super. Your slide is outstanding!

Great job on this

Great write and delivery. Reminds us a bit
of Jeff Tweedy (pre/early Wilco).

Great mix with nothing left to take away
and IMO that's a good thing. It breathes.

We enjoyed it!

I always love your stuff!! Been a while since I've seen a post by you. This is great-very deep and thoughtful lyrics- natural, simple, and magical. Neil Young meets Bruce Cockburn with a twist. Great stuff! Take care. Greg

"...it’s not what I say
it's the silence in-between the phrase"

That's a great line.

Always enjoy hearing one of your songs.

A "bigger" production than your usual..
Quite nice!
(though I think the banjo could come down a bit).

Enjoyed.

Excellent tune. Reminds me of a late sixties folksong. Very nice

Skyline: Thanks for the listen. Bringing instruments in and out as needed is an art unto itself, one that I sometimes get right, but other times I forget all about it!

Guenter: Thanks for giving it a spin!

Fred M: I think you are right about the banjo, Thanks for the suggestion on how to improve it.

F.M.M.: ROG? ha, ha -- if it was rog it would be better produced! Thanks for taking the time to listen

Mario D: I worked hard at the slide -- lots of pieces and parts. I am not a great slide player, so I miss a lot of notes (or is that jamming??!). I appreciate all the kind words.

Janice & Bud: Breathing is a hard thing to accomplish, especially when relying on something like BIAB. But it is possible, as you and floyd and others have shown. Thanks for the visit.

Greg: Yea, I haven't posted much lately. The last 5 or 6 songs I did were back in July for 50/90 and they were all non-BIAB type tunes. Thanks for the listen and comments.

Floyd: I used to only do huge (too huge) productions -- ha, ha. The temptation to use everything available was just too strong to me. Thanks for the added comment on the banjo. I'll see what I can do. I liked that line, too.

Scott C: Thanks for stopping by and having a listen.

Kevin, Great vocal. I also really like the slide. It adds a tremendous amount of ambience to the mix. That Americana vibe is right in your wheelhouse. The melody fits right in with the lyrics. I enjoyed it a lot. Tom

Hi Kevin!

What a great arrangement - perfect instruments to go with these wonderfully deep lyrics. We love your style, my husband and I are huge fans.

BTW, all you folks reading this, if you get a chance to see Kevin live don't miss it. He's a treat.

Kevin,

I have missed some good songs this last week or so.

I enjoyed this a lot and agree with the previous posters

tommayad Thanks for the listen and the kind remarks!

Josie Ha, ha -- I haven't been on streetjelly in almost a year! Having said that, I have been trying to work up a 10 song acoustic set. Maybe I will be back on in january. Thanks for the listen.

P.S. I tried to scale back the banjo a few dB. Hmmm, maybe it needs 1 db added back in.
