Walking Through A Graveyard (1-15-2013)

Well life it ain't no daisy/ if fact It's downright crazy/ but walking out on you was not my aim
It sure can be demanding/ but my fate I had a hand in/ when I lay down would you bury me in my shame

I walked out of my front door/ ain't coming back here no more/ I couldn't pay the balance on the rent
With one bag on my shoulder/ goodbye was all I told her/ She said good luck is surely heaven sent

I found myself walking through a graveyard/ I found myself walking through a graveyard
I found myself walking through a graveyard/ Searching for my own headstone

I started on a Monday/ drank myself to Sunday/ then headed off to nowhere you would know
I stumbled past a street light/ got into a neat fight/ there's misery where ever may I roam

I found myself walking through a graveyard/ I found myself walking through a graveyard
I found myself walking through a graveyard/ Searching for my own headstone

I stood above a shovel/ and you were crying double/ not two feet from a gnarly hole
I could hear it call me/ don't know how it knew me/ I hung around just like I was a ghost

I found myself walking through a graveyard/ I found myself walking through a graveyard
I found myself walking through a graveyard/ Searching for my own headstone

That was fantastic! Who would have thought that a bluegrass song about a graveyard would fly!

The mix is perfect, your vocal was very strong, and but lyrics were what put it over the top for me! WOW! I loved that " Searching for my own headstone" was super as was that last verse! Again WOW!

Super job on this one!

I'm addicted to that Boom Chicka style.

Great lyrics and love the gravel tone vocal.
Good stuff.

Clever and entertaining tune!! Interesting juxtaposition of a happy, springy melody with a bitterly sarcastic lyric. Works perfectly! Thanks for posting. Take care. Greg

I'm gonna piggyback on Mario's observations this time! He said exactly what I would have said.

Hi Lawrence,

I like those sarcastic lyrics and of course your voice.
The style is not my genre but it's nicely mixed.
Fine harmonies.
An enjoyable listen.

Thank you so much. I really don't know what inspired that line but I wrote the lines pretty much in the order that it is.

Thanks for listening. I tried different vocal approaches and this one felt the best fit.

Thank you. I started the composition by randomly putting a capo at the 5th fret and chording a C at this tempo, and the lyrics cooperated.

Hi Lawrence,

Great stuff. Even though the song has finished playing, images galore are still swirling around inside my head. Terrific lyrics! Maybe it's because of the recent holiday season, but this composition reminded me of Dickens's "Christmas Carol" and the ghosts of Christmas.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

All the best,
Noel

Lawrence,

Nice!

For a minute there, I thought I was listening to a Newman/Prine co-write. I have no compliments greater than that.

Good instrumentation. Excellent mix. Super vocal.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I don't know what inspired me to write a ghost story but I suppose it wrote itself really.

"I started on a Monday/ drank myself to Sunday" Great line. Lawrence, I hate to repeat myself, but your voice just draws the listener in. Nothing out of place. Interesting lyrics and a great choice of real tracks make this a super listen. Tom

Hi Lawrence. What a great write! Completely surprised me with the genre. I hadn't heard this type of vibe from you before. Good job!

You nailed this one. Hard to add to what's already been said.

This is really nice. It really has the vibe of the Delmore Brothers from the late 1930'a throught the 40's.

Enjoyed the listen a lot.

Hi Lawrence,

Really loved the song. Vocals and backing were all spot on.
Finally figured out who your voice reminds me of - Ry Cooder.
He still is one of my favourite singer/songwriters.

Chock full of great lines and man that VOICE!
Janice said it was sad but still gave her
"happy feet." And a Old Crow Medicine
Show vibe hit us...and that is a very good
thing. Wrap it all up with a fine arrangement
and production and Mr Gruve you have done
it again and in style.

Thank you. Yes this song just leaned that way and I'm a big fan of songs like "Man of Constant Sorrow".
