Hello everyone,

One of my solo projects:

Watching you

While checking out the 2015 Everything package (which we just won, thanks to PG music !!) I stumbled upon (which I think is definitely the best so far) 2448 PopDreamyBrent Ev 085 realtrack. Simply gorgeous, and so very functional in all kinds of genres.
The other one featured here is: 1595:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking. One of the very best fingerpicking realtracks so far.
A friend of mine challenged me to add some more dynamics to my vocals, while loosening the 'singing-totally-controlled-and-in-key' demand a little. Well, here is the result.
A pretty dramatic song with some rather theatrical strings (featuring the beautiful free VST plug-in: Tapeworm).
It's about the inability to let go of someone, when you realize you're the one to blame.

As always, any comments are welcome.

Regards,
Rob

Style is _CMPFBHF.STY (Campfire, Fingerpick Hank Ballad)

Lyrics:

I knew you'd run
I can see you trying
you never wanted this
never really knew
never really thought
it could become like this
that I could be like this
this mean...

I know you will run
no matter what I try to do
no matter what I'd say
letting go so easily
there's no looking back

I listen closely to your
heart beat next to mine
as you're trying to leave the room
getting rid of this
getting rid of me
trying to leave my life

I know you were right
cause this is getting old
I'm getting old
give power to old lovers
to leave things behind

I know you will run
no matter what I try to do
no matter what I'd say
letting go so easily
there's no looking back

Very nice work.... Loved the vocals.... falsetto highs rocked it.

I'm just now installing 2015, so I'm looking forward to the new stuff hiding in there....

You showcased this song nicely....

Cool arrangement with the new RT's and what a gorgeous vocal.

Well as Mac owners we'll have to
wait a bit on the new RT's but
it's very cool to hear them put
to use....and in this case VERY
GOOD use.

Really pretty with your typical
high standard of vocals and
production.

Congrats on a wonderful entry
into BiaB 2015!

Clearly, you should listen to that friend more often if they push you to get results like this! laugh

The lyrics come across to me as as stream of conscious and the song feels a bit unstructured... But it's your song, it's got the production values out the wazoo and oozes emotion.

Well done!

For many years here in America there was a popular TV, The Lawrence Welk Show" and Mr. Welk featured an orchestra and dancers and singers who were always top notch and technically perfect. It was always of the highest quality. Your performance of this song brought to my mind the feel one of the great tenors from that show was singing the song. Great job.

Rob,

The opening (instrumentation) is terrific.

Then, your vocal on that first verse... over the top! Great emotion in it - as a song should be done... nice!!!

Then.. the strings in the chorus - nice - and your falsetto is gorgeous. Not many people can do that so well. Art Garfunkel comes to mind...wow.

Second verse vocal - just as good...

Nice everything. This is one of the best LISTENS I've ever experience on the forum (and there a lot of good ones these days...).

A couple of production notes - and these are simply personal preference things... I thought the guitar solo was a little too busy in spots - for the song... And I thought the ending should have been just the strings - without that final acoustic guitar flourish...

I enjoyed this. Thoroughly.

Hello Herb,

thanks for your very positive comment!
oh, you are definitely going to find some very nice stuff in the 2015 version. For one, the held chord function is great.
There are also some special 'held' real tracks that function even better for this.

Rob this is really good! Your vocal is outstanding.

You are very good at singing falsetto.

You should be very proud of this one.

while loosening the 'singing-totally-controlled-and-in-key' demand a little...........Can't say you were successful in this regard but that is a good thing! Your tone and control are as good as anyone on the forum, and better than nearly all. This is beautifully done. Great arrangement, lots of emotion, excellent instrumentation. Top notch all the way!! Take care. Greg

Hi David,

Thanks!
We've never heard of wazoo and oozes?

Hi Floyd,

Thanks, once again!
About your preferences: yes, I think you are right about the ending without acoustic guitar (solely strings), I didn't think of that.
The guitar solo, indeed, has one or two parts that may appear a little bit busy in this, relatively, slow song.
This was the best this soloist would do at the time grin.

Thank you Greg, once again!

You are right about the control part not being totally successful smirk
My main goal here was to create lots of dynamics in both the vocal and the song itself. Probably the hardest vocal for me so far.

Thanks again.

Hi Rob,

What a vocal! You did great following your friends advice. This is quite imressive singing, technically and emotionally!

Let's not forget the song though. Fragile, with so much care put together. I loved it!

Fred

Wow, wonderful composition! Just beautiful and haunting. And your vocal here is top notch!

Super all around!!!

Rob, Fantastic vocal! I felt the emotion. The fingerpicked guitar and the strings sound great. I agree that the lead guitar was a little too busy. Other than that it is written, arranged and produced up to your usual high standard. Once again, Bravo! Tom
