I try my best not to get into other people’s business. But if you are a true friend sometimes you have no choice and then you might end up with the blues. All comments / suggestions welcome. Tom

I Thought You Ought To Know

Well I know that you’re in love with her

I know you’ve made some plans

But i thought I ought to tell you this

Man to man

I saw her at the club last night she was with some other guy

I think that she’s back on that stuff she looked a little high

I guess that’s just the way it goes

And I thought you oughta know

I warned you all about her i said she’d bring you down

She’s got a reputation as trouble in this town

I hate to see this happen but it’s a cold hard fact

It just won’t work out for you she can’t clean up her act

I guess that’s just the way it goes
And I thought you oughta know ©2015 Thomas Adams

Hey Tommy.
Don't normally like long intro's but this was a great lead in to your excellent vocal.
Great blues feel.
You nailed it.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tommy,

that's blues at its best! Your voice and guitar make it special.
I like that live ambience you mixed in.
You chose a very nice sax and piano.
An over all enjoyable listen (not only one)!

Great track, Tommy.

Liked everything, but particularly your guitar work - superb blues playing.

A nice live feel to the band, enhanced by the audience participation.

Just very professional all round.

'Bout as good as it get.

Dang cool intro. Just the right touch of everything. Should be a BIAB commercial... "Is it real.. or is it RealTracks?..."

Excellent write. A blues song with a story....Nice.

Good vocal. This fits you well.. I really like that reverb on ya...

Guitar = Tasty, tasty, tasty. Dripping with feel... maybe my favorite of your leads... S W E E E E E T!!!

The mix is IMPECCABLE.

'Bout as good as it get. I thought you ought to know....

Tommy,

Outstanding write and recording!

The crowd sound effects sold me on the idea that you had recorded "I Thought You Ought To Know" live at a club even though I knew better from reading your notes prior to listening. The illusion worked until the end of the sax solo. The crowd noise begins and ends too abruptly after the solo.

Herb, I played many years in a country band and I insisted that we mix in some blues. The hard core country guys were totally against it at first, but in the end I won them over. Hope I can do the same here. Thanks for the kind words. Tom

Guenter, As I was mixing, I kept thinking it sounded like something you would hear in a small club. So I tried to find some crowd noise to fill it out. Thanks, Tom

And just when I thought it would be impossible for you to top yourself........well, you did it again!! Loved the "audience in the box"- really lent itself well to the whole feel. Track selection and integration has never been better to my ears. Guitar and vocal were amazing! Write was true blues. Never heard anything better on the forum. Loved it!! Take care. Greg

Jim, I am so glad that you mentioned about the crowd after the solo. This proves to me that you were listening very closely and I appreciate that. You are 100% correct and I struggled with that part. You would not believe how hard it is to find free crowd samples. I got tired of looking and left it in. In hindsight I should have made the extra effort to get it right. Thanks for pointing out what was wrong and I know now that it is better to fix the mix than to try and slide one by. Tom

Hi Tom,
Can't add much to the great comments on your blues. Star of the show to me are the vocals. And the way you make me believe you're really performing live at the club...
Where did you get the audience sound?
A great song alltheway ☺

Thanks Fred, Those club sounds were something that I downloaded off a royalty free loop sight a couple of years ago. I tried to find some better ones but was not willing to pay for them. Very hard to find free samples. Tom

I was complaining to my son one day about how I had come to despise the blues... he replied that it's probably because you hear so much of it that just isn't played well; But when you hear somebody get it right, you can't help but get captivated by it and want to play along. Ever since he said that, I've found it to be true... you can't judge a genre by the worst it has to offer, you have to seek the best.

Since coming to this forum, I've really fallen in love with the blues all over again. And Tommy, your songs are part of that renewal. This song is a good example of the blues done well. All of the parts you chose for this song are spot on... soulfully played, nothing contrived or automated sounding about it at all.

The crowd noises are a very nice finishing touch, but IMO, the song stands firm even without that.

As I write this review, I've let the player keep playing your other songs, and I'm struck by the sincerity and down-to-earth quality of all your songs. To my way of thinking, you are the real deal, Tommy. I appreciate all the musical thoughts and opinions you shared during my visit. When I finally get around to posting something, it will probably be blues, inspired by the one and only .. Tommy Adams!

Tommy,

There's nothing I could say about this song that hasn't been said before... Killer track, killer vocal tone and feel, nice guitar tone going on and a great arrangement! I'm always into a great blues tune and this one certainly did not disappoint. Enjoyed the track from start to finish and the solos sounded really tasty!

Well done!
