On this one I used the duplicate drummer feature in Pro Logic. It maps out a midi track and

allows you to either replace or double the kick, toms, or snare. I chose to double the kick with a

Roland TS-808 sound. This resulted in a low end mess. After 16 mixes I turned to Dr floyd for

help. In 5 minutes he got back to me with the proper prescription and the patient recovered.

After I rolled off the low end on the bass, I found mix #17 to be the keeper. Thanks floyd! I hope

everyone likes it.

Don’t Play Me

You dont have to tell me twice No i dont think you're playin nice It’s heating up round here

Think that I will just kick back Brush off your last attack get lazy maybe have a beer

ive been up Ive been down lived my life on both sides of town

you could say ive been around so don’t play me

It’s who i am and what I’ve found is If you don’t know me by now

take a closer look My life’s been crazy My life’s been crazy

Spinning out can’t grab hold Everything that I was told is upside down these days

I can see how you react to my almost total lack of changing my well worn ways

ive been up Ive been down lived my life on both sides of town

you could say ive been around so don’t play me

Hi tommy. You consistently produce such high quality and this is no exception. I loved the harmonies on this one. The drums certainly do sound different to the normal real tracks but I am no expert on drums. Good job!

Great writing!! This is just one example of some great lyric writing in this song. It is written in such a natural, comfortable narrative style, which ironically is very difficult to do. Love the way the guitar comes in at the chorus and energizes the song. Your vocals get better and better Tom. There's a John Hiatt feel to this vocal that I love. I did feel the chorus structure could have more impact if it ended with "Don't play me" and that were set up more with a melodic peak. The chorus lyrics are great but I don't feel it ends in a climax but more sort of lets go. Just a thought. Really love the song as a whole. You are doing some great stuff Tom. Another great song!! Take care. Greg

I like this song a lot Tommy. The melody is so pretty. Your vocals and harmony are really nice. And as someone who's been played, I can relate to the lyrics.

The guitar solos and Dr. F drums sound great as far as I can tell, I'm not in a good listening environment with lots of other noise going on this morning so I'll leave my two cents on the mix at that.

Hi Tom
I like this song expecially at this point:

"ive been up Ive been down lived my life on both sides of town
you could say ive been around so don’t play me"

High rock music here!

Good real tracks used.

Hi Tommy,

We agree with Greg about the John Hiatt feel, we noticed the similarity in your voice before.
Dr. Floyd did a good job on the drums wink and both the vocals and instruments sound very crisp.
Good job!

Great song. This one resonated with me and I think it is one of your best. A bit out of character from some of your other posts but in such an enjoyable way. Your vocals stood out to me this time. This is my new personal favorite Tom Adams song. Back for another listen...

Man! I like this!

Tom, you step it up a little on each write and each production.
They seem to be getting a little more "catchy" with each one, too!

This is pure ear candy - start to finish. Love the phrasing - both the writing and the vocal - of the verses.

The production is crisp! and clear! - perfect pop production.

Top notch everything.

(don't want anyone to get the wrong idea - all I did was lend a quick ear - and a quick suggestion or two - this is all Tom - he's the man - and, I'm happy to say... a friend - he's done the same for me a time or two.)

Awesome song!

Hi Tom.

Great rock track!

Nice guitar, great vocal and harmony.

I particularly liked the pick-up into the choruses - clever bit of arranging.

Excellent mix, with a really big sound and nice stereo wash.

We've said it before and here it is again. Your lyrics are
just so "singable." They flow like clear water out of a
mountain spring. Nothing is contrived, nothing is forced
and the rhymes are amazing. Hook these lyrics up with
your singing, the melody and your guitar and it's...well
it's something that demands to be heard again and again.

I tried the Logic thing on the drums...it worked but, man,
it does not sound like this. You taken RD's to a new
dimension.

Congrats on doing it all again Tom.

PS Love that guitar and the tone!

Nice Tom. Great harmonies. I like the way song builds. By the time you do the last couple chorus into the guitar solo is going full steam ahead. I liked " well worn ways" . That may sneak its way into my writer toolbox .

Hey Tom,

This song is a treasure chest. All the lyrics are good, but this line really jumped out and rang a personal bell,

"Thought that I would just kick back, brush off your last attack." Damn! And for the same reason: couldn't change.

Driving beat grabs you by the lapels; the guitar won't let go; you cannot not listen to the whole thing. Most of all, though, the thing that can't be taught and no one else has: your voice. You can't fake authenticity. As they say in Spanish, you are "El trato real" - the real deal.

There's such a lot to like about this song. It's polished, but feels effortless. I really like the way it starts with a sparse arrangement - and lyric - to build and pound in a catchy chorus.

Pop song goodness throughout.
