Here's a slight remix of one of the tunes from my Dang, this stuff is tough! thread

I can't say that I hear much of a difference, though (ha, ha). There are still a few places where the lead vocal blends in a bit. I also don't care for the sound of the intro at the moment.

It looks like I posted the original here way back in 2010 (and the mix is quite different from then!). One intrepid listener chimed in back then (always appreciated!). This was before the User Showcase section was even added.

BIAB Stuff: (I do believe this is still accurate)
Bass: Midi Picked Electric Bass (35)
Drums: NashvillePop16^3-Hihat,Ride
Acoustic Guitar: 380:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Syncopated Sugar Ev 102
Electric Guitar: 381:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Syncopated Sugar Ev 102
Piano: 889:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment PopFunkyTexas Ev 100

This is Her Weekend (to watch the dogs)
(c) Emmrich 2015

I wanna go fishing
My ex is [*****]
That there’s two dogs to watch
Says she needs a vacation
or some appreciation
but her lame story doesn't wash

I sort of do miss her
and the way things were
but she’s supposed to keep Delta and Dawn
we wrote it in the agreement
Judge Judy signed and sealed it
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(chorus)
I wish I was out barking
or howling at the moon
or down at Danny's
Buying babes typhoons
but here I am at home
Dog Whisperer on the tube
It must be against the law
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

I'm gonna call my lawyer
and the National Guard
and when they arrest her, I'll applaud
she thinks she's found a loop hole
but she ain't gonna get parole
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(chorus again)

(bridge)
You know Delta and Dawn are sort of sweet
and they love lying by my feet
but Sam just gave a shout,
there are spring break girls all about

(chorus again and tag)

Kevin: Acoustic guitar, vocals
Sam: vocals
Kelly: "Hey Sam!"
BIAB: Drums, Bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano

Kevin,

I always like your stuff - there is so much "freedom" in your writing and your delivery.

I am generally telling people to "turn the piano up", but in this case, I think you need to bring it down some (2-3 dB would be my guess). The Solo-Accompaniment pianos include "a lot more playing" (including the bass end) - and that is what is competing with your vocal. (if you are really adventurous, you might want to consider finding a less busy piano track)

Fun song.

Greg: Glad you liked the chorus. It actually started off as a girl's story, but the whose post triggered the idea for the song didn't want to co-write on that idea, so I made it a guys song (which makes it more amusing, I think).

Bob, gruverider, Charlie, Alyn, Guenter: Thanks for stopping by and giving it a spin. Glad you all enjoyed it.

Floyd: I had cut back on the BIAB acoustic guitar and was considering finding a replacement, but I chickened out! So the thought of a piano replacement is even worse (ha, ha). Of course it took me awhile to even find the original BIAB stuff for this tune this morning.

I cut the piano -2.5 dB during the bridge and ~ -1db every where else. I think it helped during the bridge. I also increased the high pass filter a tad. Thanks for the comment.

Kevin,

I've been following your other thread in "Recording, mixing, etc." with interest. There are some good ideas that have come out during the course of the comments. Just a moment ago, I mentioned Ozone by iZotope. Guitarhacker is right when he says it would be worth trying. It really is good at adding polish to the final product and it does it with ease. I wouldn't be without it. The $200 version is the one I have. (floyd, rharv, J&B, Guitarhacker, JosieC, Sundance (inasmuch as I recall, at least), Matt Finley are some of the people on the PG Music forums who use Ozone.)

"This Is Her Weekend" sounds excellent. From your comment on Soundcloud, I take it that you have taken floyd's advice and have adjusted the piano. It sounded fine to me in what I just heard. The mix is great and the imagery in the lyrics is excellent.

When "This Is Her Weekend" finished, Soundcloud took me to the "Bup Bup Song". That is such a cool sound. To my ears, there's a Paul-Simon-like folk sound in your writing and presentation of this one. Now "Little Bit Of Lovin'" is playing... this is also great!

All the best with your album.

Regards,
Noel

It appears to me that you guys had lots of fun recording this one. Just don't let it go to the dogs!
I enjoyed the humor and I hope to hear more of this type song in the future.

Good voice.

Now that was witty and funny!

Yep, those
solo-accompanient RT's can get pretty busy
for rhythm sometimes. Comped up they
can even make a decent solo. But you've
got it down enough for my ears at this point.

And that chorus is outstanding!
And we always love your vocals!

Nice.
