Guardian Angel

https://soundcloud.com/peterf1957/guardian-angel

A wistful true story of misbegotten youth set in Australia (Cullendullah is on the NSW South Coast and Town Hall station is in the centre of Sydney.)

Leon Vocal & Lyrics
Me Backing vocals and quite a lot of guitar.

Didn’t appear to have saved the BIAB track but Real tracks play Everything except lead and some rhythm guitar.

Lyrics
Pulled into the Cullendullah roadhouse
Cause a light upon the dash was blinking red
‘When was the last time you put oil in this thing?’
Was what the man at the Cullendullah roadhouse said

I guess I wasn’t very conscientious
In those days about such things, or much at all
By God I was so foolish, young and feckless
The things I didn’t know it makes me shudder to recall

I must’ve had a guardian angel
Spreading out her wings to cover me
I must’ve had a guardian angel
How else I made it through those days is a flat out mystery

Woke up behind the wheel of my little Renault
With branches whipping past an inch away
It was raining cats and dogs and I was drunk as Boris Yeltsin
How I lived to tell the tale I really couldn’t say

I must’ve had a guardian angel
Spreading out her wings to cover me
I must’ve had a guardian angel
How else I made it through those days is a flat out mystery

Reclining on a bench on Town Hall Station
Missed the last train home an hour ago
No money in my pocket, so I decide to walk it
It’s only twenty miles so it’s up and off we go

Never had much sense of direction
So of course it wasn’t long before I badly lost my way
A kindly taxi driver took pity on the fool
And took me all the way back home even though I couldn’t pay

I must’ve had a guardian angel
Spreading out her wings to cover me
I must’ve had a guardian angel
How else I made it through those days is a flat out mystery

Hello Peter,

That's a very nice rocker!
Cool guitar playing and smooth backing vocals on the chorus.

Great verse!! Also loved the Boris Yeltsin line. Fun tune, and a lot of fine guitar. Enjoyed it a lot! Take care. Greg

We certainly agree with Greg...that is a cool verse.
Fine vocals and perfect guitar pickin' for the tune.

Oh, loving that guitar tone too.

We much enjoyed it.

Rock on!!

Peter and Leon,

I really enjoyed that.
Seems some of us are lucky to be here at all, and I've been in scrapes like that as well, ho humm LOL

never thought I would hear ole Boris Yeltsin mentioned in a song BRILLIANT, forgotten all about him.

thoroughly enjoyed the trip through memory lane, thank god I wasn't coming the other way grin

great stuff

Peter and Leon, "How I lived to tell the tale I really couldn’t say"- the story of my life. Good rocker and some fine guitar. I thought the intro was a bit long but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Keep em coming. Tom

A good rocker, Peter. Nice guitar works throughout.

I listened first. I found it a bit difficult to follow the story - because of the music. So, then listened while reading the lyric. A well-told story. It made me think that the lyric style and music style were a bit mismatched - both being good, but perhaps needing different partners.

Thanks for all the comments.
Alyn - lucky you weren't coming the other way - I recall going down a one way street the wrong way with him 40 years or so ago.
Floyd - I have an acoustic version quite different - you might have liked that one better (I think Leon prefers that one).
