This was my first co-write with floyd and we started with the PM here and then went to each others emails, in between I missed his last verse ideas which became the fantastic recording that he posted. Unaware of that direction at the time I sent him my last verses that were darker but reflected more closely my upbringing. They were just scratch ideas with one strumming guitar, all I've added is a little harmony. I do think that his song is better and I love it but you may enjoy hearing this version.

My Old Man
© 2015 Kenny Leverett Floyd Jane

He’d never drive a Chevy had to be a Ford
Miller in hand and he’s got it floored
My Momma says Bill you’d better slow it down
You got kids in the car so stop foolin’ around

He’d give her wink and me and Bobby would laugh
With the windows down wrestling in the back
The radio blasting out Summer Breeze
On a Saturday going to the Tastee Freeze

My old man
Never met a stranger, never turned from a fight
Saw both sides of the story, but knew which was right
Never talked religion, politics, or war
They don’t make em like that anymore
Like my old man, my old man

At forty he could barely stand up straight
From drivin’ all those miles on the interstates
Hard drinking put him in an early grave
A drowning man nobody here could save

My old man
Never met a stranger, never turned from a fight
Saw both sides of the story, but knew which was right
Never talked religion, politics, or war
They don’t make em like that anymore
Like my old man, my old man
Love it Kenny!! This is a great song. I love the sparse arrangement and the heartfelt vocal. You're a great writer. Not many can capture a story so well. Excellent!! Take care. Greg
Hi Kenny,

I like your version, too. But I prefer
Floyd's more positive approach.
A good write though. And good vocals.

Guenter
I hope others will take the time to give this a listen.

It is really interesting how these 2 songs can start from the same place and go in totally different directions.... a lesson in itself..

I dig this version, too. Glad that you posted it...

Yep, all of the above.

Your gritty (in a great way) voice really fits the darker aspects of this version. Like floyd mentioned it is cool to hear how a common song base can reach two different destinations. We enjoyed the journey with both versions!
