Final mix (for now) of Thunderbird Motel. Pretty close to the 2011 original, just some extra mixing and some vocal parts.

Thunderbird Motel Duet (free streaming and download)
(c) Emmrich 2011, 2015

(Male verses)
sitting in the thunderbird motel
parking lot's half full
and my life’s half empty
sheets didn't get changed today
they don't hand out mints or shampoo bottles
there ain't no plans to re-model

but they'll take your cash with no id
you can stay if you can pay,
it's a good place
to get out of the world's way

(male only chorus)
and i need a place to go when i want out
out of this hole I’m in
i need a place where no one's gonna tell
and i found it here at the thunderbird motel

(Female Verse)
I work down at sam’s silver moon cafe
6am coffee to the working man’s table
breakfast and lunch when I am able
I stand and wait on customers all day
tips on the counter, crumbs on the floor
I’ll stay here ‘til I can’t stand it any more

(female only chorus)
... and I found him here at the Thunderbird Motel

(Bridge)
so don't look for us in no fancy part of town
don't look for us when the sun’s going down
we’ll be were you can’t find us
down at the thunderbird motel

(chorus again -- together)
and we need a place to go when we want out
out of this hole we’re in
we need a place where no one's gonna tell
and we found it here at the thunderbird motel
and we found it here at the thunderbird motel

Excellent write and performance!! You always get such a live feel Kevin and I'm not sure how you pull it off. I can picture the recording studio filled with encouraging fans, and some people singing BGs and playing shakers. Harmonica was perfect. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Hi Kevin...

It sounds as though you are sitting across the room from us. You always manage to get such a true and live sound from your guitars. To us, we heard this as Country-Folk-Americana. Very original ... all of your songs have very interesting subjects. We enjoyed it a bunch! Happy New Year ...

I always enjoy hearing your songs, Kevin...

As Guenter noted, this is one of your best. It has all the elements that make up that "Kevin signature sound". Nice imagery in the write.

Janet does a good job on her parts.

I liked how "big" the sound got at the end.

Hi Kevin.

A first class piece of writing and a very atmospheric song.

Everything in it's place and, like Floyd said, it's nice the way it builds.

Great vocals from both you and Janet.

ROG.

Hey Kevin. Love this one. Your style is so distinctive and easy on the ear. Janet's contribution is awesome (I listened to it yesterday but have only got round to commenting now).

Wow Kevin....this is a GREAT song!
Loving the lyric, arrangement and
vocals.

The cool imagery is beggin' for a
video. As several have mentioned
the "build" is very effective.

And...it all has you signature organic
"right here in the room" sound.

Nice!!

Super big thanks to all who commented and listened. I am not sure how I get that "in the same room sound", it is probably mostly accidentally. I'll see what I can do to keep it going, though. FAWM is coming around again, time to start putting new strings on and getting ready for the songwriting extravaganza.

Thanks again!

Kevin I enjoyed listening and when I saw the title of your song I immediately went back in my mind to my home town in south Georgia where there was a motel called Thunderbird. It fit somewhat what you wrote about. You and Janet did a great job on the vocals and the mix was very good. Good story line.

Kevin,

This sounds really excellent. The songwriting, arranging, singing and producing were all first class.

A terrific listen indeed.

All the best,

Good song. The vocals are tight, the performances are believable and they sell the song. The mix is solid with the right blend of instruments and dynamics.

I really enjoyed this!
