I've watched in amazement over the last year or so as Josie "pays her dues" to success without attempting to cut corners. She began with perfect pitch then added BIAB, songwriting and guitar to her arsenal of talent. She keeps taking her dream to the next plateau while never abandoning her friends. I'm extremely proud of her while being listed among her countless friends.

Let 2016 be a pivotal year for this wonderful lady!

Jo, you go girl!
Thanks Donald. It has been an absolute pleasure to play for you in person and on streetjelly. May we have many many more joyful moments.

PS admins ... You may want to move this thread to the off-topic or YouTube subforums. Even though it is a legal recording, it is a cover.
Nice version. I remember this from back in the day.

Everything sounds good. Love the clarity of the piano. There's a glitch around 2:38 on the piano track. That's the only thing I heard that was out of place in the mix.

Vocals are good. Loved the harmony.

As I understand it.... if you have the permissions as you do, it's totally acceptable to post covers here. Copyright infringed covers are the ones not acceptable.

nice work.
Hi Joanne,

very nice version.
I don't know the original, but it can't be better.
Especially like the harmony.
With my trick I could watch the video.
Enjoyed it a lot.

Hey, I remember this one. Joanne, as Don said you have made great strides this past year especially in your arranging and mixing. Sounds really good. Have a productive and happy new year. Tom
Very pretty Joanne!! I recognize the song but I don't remember hearing her sing it. I'm a big fan of hers. BETWEEN THE LINES is an awesome record. You did a beautiful job with this!! Take care. Greg
Herb, Guenter, Tommy and Greg. Thanks so much. The song was made famous by Joan Baez. Herb, thanks for the info on the glitch. I have three more songs to mix and some photos to have taken then I will send in my first album of 2016 (I plan to do three this year and will try fawm to write one of original songs).

The album is going to be called "Circle Dance - a collection of songs from my favourite female singer-songwriters". Here is the track list:

Across the Great Divide - Kate Wolf
Anchorage - Michelle Shocked
Circle Dance - Bonnie Raitt
Green Eyes - Kate Wolf
Heavenly Day - Patty Griffin
Jesse - Janis Ian
Jolene - Dolly Parton
L&N don't stop here anymore - Jean Ritchie
Look at Miss Ohio - Gillian Welch
Mary - Patty Griffin
Only Heaven Knows - Joan Baez
Someone is looking for someone like you - Gail Davies
Sweeter for Me - Joan Baez
The Seeker - Dolly Parton
Wrecking Ball - Gillian Welch

I should be in a position to send it in mid Jan but it takes a few weeks for it to be live on iTunes etc.
Joanne,

A beautiful song. You did a terrific job on the vocal and harmonies. To me there seems to be some distortion on the vocal - you might have others listen to that closely (I could be wrong or it might be Youtube).

I do not care for what Herb calls "the clarity of the piano". It has a brittle edge to it that detracts from the vocal. The volume seems to jump up and down throughout and at times it "sits on top" on the vocal. I would suggest you pull the volume down a touch and pull some high eq out of it to "mellow" it. It's volume went way down on the last verse - and sat under the vocal better...

floyd
Thanks so much Floyd. This feedback is much appreciated as I am in the last stages of mixing the entire album so your comments will equally apply to the other songs. Would you mind terribly if I posted another attempt? Kind regards
Beautiful cover. Best wishes for 2016.

I don't' mind. Or if you want to do it by "back channels" that's fine. For something like this, you might want to let people know you are looking for "real" (hardcore) critique - because you are in those final stages of mixing a CD and opinions of any kind can be very useful (even if you choose to ignore them)...
Very, very nice Joanne. FWIW, You might consider, as mentioned, letting your vocal shine even more by dropping the piano a bit during the vocal passages. As fj mentioned you did a great job with the vocals. You really do an outstanding job of creating the vocal feel of the lady folk stars that I so well remember from the 60's. I wore out some Baez discs!

Congrats and best to you during the New Year!!!

J&B
I felt the same as Floyd on the inconsistent piano volumes.

Your beautiful vocals should be showcased in your music. As Floyd mentioned, you become buried in several places.

I don't hear the distortion mentioned but I've lost a lot of my high-end hearing so I miss a lot.

Having said that - I enjoy the fact that you are experimenting with the endless variety of instrumentation available in BIAB and look to you as a very accomplished user. It's obvious to all that you do your homework. We all learn from you by osmosis.

Eventually, you will develop a "signature sound" but let that happen spontaneously. If you were to pursue it it will elude you.

Meanwhile, it's wonderful to watch you grow your manifold talents.

Donny
I thought some of you may be interested in the transformation of this song. Floyd very kindly offered to help me with mixing this.

Here's what we did.

1. We removed the guitar completely,
2. added a Cello
3. Used Floyds version of True Pianos to generate the piano track from the BIAB Super Midi track.
4. I found I had ozone on the master bus which was probably causing the distortion on the vocal
5. I went back to my original treatment of the lead vocal (which is just PG Dynamic and PG Reverb).

Back to the old "less is more". I have definitely been over thinking this mixing thing. I am going to apply this principle to the rest of the tracks on the album and I think this will produce a better result.

Thank you Floyd. I really appreciate the time you spent on this.
