Don't Talk About Love To Me

A (anti) love song with some 12 string electric guitars (played on a Variax guitar)and because you don't hear a lot of electric sitar on the forum I thought what the heck and played some on this track (also on the Variax).

Lyrics & Vocal Leon
I played the Sitar some 12 string guitars & backing vocal.
Thanks to Bud for his assistance with the mix.

Don't Talk About Love To Me
Love is a fiction
Love’s for the birds
When they say I love you
It’s just three little words

Take the sleeping beauty
In the deep dark woods
Here comes Prince Charming
Now don’t he look the goods

Kneels down beside her
And she wakes with a kiss
Looks up at the clock and says
What time you call this?

Don’t talk about love to me
Don’t give me that sweet caress
Don’t talk about two hearts beating
Or about happiness

Love’s a deception
It’s a trick of the light
A sad misconception
A curse and a blight

They say it’s forever
Then they take the next train
Here comes a new fool
Let’s hear the refrain

Don’t talk about love to me
Don’t give me that sweet caress
Don’t talk about two hearts beating
Or about happiness

See the bride at the alter
Best day of her life
This is just the beginning
Of her trouble and strife

The man by her side
Yeah he’s saying I will
With his eye on the bridesmaid
And his hand in the till

Don’t talk about love to me
Don’t give me that sweet caress
Don’t talk about two hearts beating
Or about happiness

Don’t talk about love to me
Don’t tell me about your affairs
You want tell a love story
Go and tell someone who cares

Don’t talk about love to me
Don’t give me that sweet caress
Don’t talk about two hearts beating
Or about happiness

Hi Peter and Leon,

What a great opening... tempo, instruments, mix all grab hold of you right at the start! When I got into the song a bit further, early 70s sprang to mind. I'm still singing the chorus... I think it's going to be in my head for most of this evening! It's very infectious (in a good way).

All the best,
Noel

P.S. I'm still trying to work out which instrument was the sitar! I'll have to go back for another listen....

Hi Peter and Leon,

lyrics, arrangement, vocals, harmonies and playing are seamless. Eventually an anti love song.
Enjoyed this a lot.

Peter/Leon,

Nice job on the drum opening! Good mix. Nice repeating guitar licks for a signature sound.

The chorus is really catchy. Like a late 60's AM hit. Dave Clark Five came to mind. Freddie and The Dreamers. The Turtles. Nice harmonies...

A terrific listen. Enjoyed it.

Very nice!! Everything screams 60's (vocals, harmonies, drums, guitars) and in a great way. Even lyrics have that 60's vibe. As other said, catchy and fun. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Noel thanks for the nice review. The sitar comes in at the chorus and is the prominent instrument in the outro.

Thanks Greg. It almost reminds me a bit of the Monkees...

This is one of the really good ones. You and Leon cross a lot
of genres and do all of them so well. We love the mid
60's feel on this. It captures all of the good aspects
of that vibe. The Monkees do come to mind and late in
their game before it all blew up they were doing some
really nice stuff.

This is a cool song, indeed, and one we'll share to folks
to illustrate how powerful BiaB is in the hands of
talented folks.

And, as always, terrific write, vocals and guitar!

floyd already said pretty much what I was going to say. ROCK SOLID production!

My only additional comment is that everything about the music is upbeat... the tempo, the style, the delivery, the key is major... but the message is somewhat dark, and that creates a bit of cognitive dissonance as I listen.

The closest commercial song about which I'd say the same thing is Linda Ronstadt/Stone Ponies "Different Drum" ... But the disconnect doesn't seem to have hurt the way her song was received, so maybe it's just me.

My own musical sensibilities would like to hear this message delivered with a slower song in a minor key, or the same song with a more upbeat message.

Having said all that, I think the song and the lyrics are both very good, the song is a treat, and I imagine you are quite pleased with this one.. you certainly should be!

Thanks for the comprehensive review appreciate it. I felt the lyric was somewhat tongue in cheek hence the major feel. Not sure what the author felt didn't bother asking him - which often leads to some interesting interpretations. He mainly picks me up on phrasing issues (& playing too much guitar).
