Good Evening Forum Friends
I hope everyone is doing fine tonight. We've got a new old one for you tonight. I wrote the original version of this song when I was about 16 back in the 70s. You may hear an influences from the Moody Blues and John Denver.
Believe it or not the original lyrics were even darker.
I'm playing the piano and keyboards as well as the guitar in the right track. The only RT is 365:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 085

Here's the link:

We hope you like it.

Interesting song SD! Eerily romantic, or romantically eerie-can't decide. Reminds me of Phantom. Very nicely done, except I think the live piano sound is a little muddy. Cool listen! Take care. Greg

Hi SD,

Congratulations that your dreams came true!

I'm sitting here thinking my way through all the songs I know and I can't recall one specifically written about moonbeams other than Harry Nillson. Moonbeam(s) are usually used in the body of lyrics and not as the hook. I think that that means you have a near unique lyric concept and 40+ years hasn't impacted on it. Personally, I like your lyrics better than Nillson's smile

These are such a great couple of lines.... emotive and very visual...

Thanks for letting me step back into your past for a bit.

All the best,

I like the unique melody you employ here and your chord progression and key changes.

Well written.

All,
Thanks for listening. I'm glad you liked it. I'll have it on Soundcloud soon and let you know.

Greg,
I think "eerie romantic" I'll have to add that to the song description. About the piano, I wanted to add some "air" to the sound of the piano to give it a more eerie feeling so I mic'ed my piano (the one in the picture by the way) about two feet away. Not exactly the sound I wanted but close.

Noel,
Cool observation. I'm glad you like the concept and lyrics. As you may know, my wife helps improve my typically weak lyrics. Regarding the title hook, I called it "Moonglow" originally but never was comfortable with that due the famous "Moonglow" from the swing era.

Guenter,
Thanks. Always good to hear from you.

Sergio
Thanks for commenting.

Gruve
Thanks. I usually compose using a piano but this composed on guitar. It definitely takes you in a different direction.

Floyd,
Thanks. I appreciate you listening.

What a beautiful composition SD! Wonderfully intricate.

Cool song - reminds me of the Prickly Pear's interpretation of Annabel Lee.
I think you need to tweak the mix a bit. The piano is too far back at the beginning of the song - it sits well as the song gets moving but not in the intro.
Once the song's texture thickens the distant piano sounds a little muddy of indistinct.
There're some sibilant sounds on you voice as well - this is exaggerated by the reverb. You can treat the vocal or the sss sounds before the reverb and that'd help heaps.
Cool song though.
Well worth working on a little more.

hi Space Dog,

I like everything about this (I'm a sucker for songs in a minor key)
I enjoyed your playing on all the instruments... nice job, very impressed

Greetings Forumites,
Thanks for listening and your kind comments.

Scott, Glad you liked it. I hope it was a friendly haunting.

Bob, So glad you enjoyed it. I had fun with the chord changes.

Tommy, Thanks for listening and your comments.

Josie, Thanks. It needed a beautiful melody to support the lyrical concept.

Ray, Thanks for your constructive comments. I'll trying de-essing but I haven't had much luck with that tool in the past. I'll also play with the piano a bit.

Pat, Thanks. I'm trying to get my chops back on guitar. I can fingerpick but not as well as the RT.

Rob,
Thanks. Best wishes to you two.

Haunting, hypnotic, mesmerizing...whichever one works best!

Really nice feel and production.

16? Wow! When I (Bud) was 16 I didn't have enough sense to get out
of a shower of you know what -- much less compose a cool song. smile

Enjoyed it!

Very nice Space Dog!!

Only have one question. How did you break into my living room and steal my Lion picture and my glasses?

I didn't even see you. That was smooth, man.

Janice and Bud,
I'm humbled by your description. It's so gratifying when you create something that communicates with feeling and emotion. Thanks.

David,
Thanks. I promise I didn't break into your house. We were living near Tampa when that picture was taken (too long ago) and we got that print from the Dali museum in St. Pete. The wife tells me it was a $20 print and $400 frame...on discount of course.
