I think this was the first song I wrote when I was the proud owner of BIAB 2014 Basic and had 32 real tracks. I decided to re-do it with my new setup.

When the World Was Real
David Snyder

V1.

I miss the 4 track reel to reel
I miss that love that we used to feel
It was strong as American Steel
And brave men weren’t afraid to kneel
My lover sang me Let it Be
She reminded me Paul’s mother was named Mary
My friends knew all the notes to Purple Haze
Cause people could really play back in those days

CH:

Dylan asked me how it feels
To be out there on my own
Well I really don’t mind that much at all
I’ve always been a rolling stone
But I miss those days in a million ways
It’s exactly how I feel
I miss those days baby…
I miss those days
when the world was real

V2.

I kind of miss Led Zeppelin 4
The smell of vinyl in a record store
Walk in the valley of nevermore
Pull on my railroad boots and head right out the door
I dream sometimes of that silver girl, and I wonder
If she’s still sailing round the world
If the bridge over troubled water fell into the sea
Then she’s probably left stranded on the shore

CH 2:

Morrison said break on through
Keep going to the other side
But we never made it to the promised land
I guess we must have missed the ride
Well I look around and I’m a stranger babe
It’s exactly how I feel
I miss the magic baby…of the days
When the world was real…

Interlude:

CH. 3

Dylan asked me how it feels
To be out there on my own
Well I really don’t mind that much at all
I’ve always been a rolling stone
But I miss those days in a million ways
It’s exactly how I feel
I miss those days baby…
I miss those days
when the world was real
when the world was real
like a 4 track reel to reel
like the love we used to feel
strong as American steel
when the world was real
when the world was real
when the world was real

David,

It was good to hear where the BIAB journey began for you. I can't believe it's only been two years! You've certainly been a fountain of compositions in that short time. I admire how quickly you create and some of the great imagery and titles you come up with.

All the best,
Noel

David,

You are now moving forward at such a rate both lyrically and with your niche singing style
It’s time to start thinking about a album. I wish so much for you, it’s deserved.

David, I really like the melody variations in this track and the passion in your vocal delivery. Well constructed too. Great job.

David,
you're really crankin' out the hits lately!

I like this one a lot... especially the mix, but also the lyrics. You did a good job of picking a few nostalgic memories and working them into a story that a whole generation can identify with.

Chords were interesting too... nothing cookie cutter about this song.

You're on a roll, buddy! Keep 'em coming!

Hi David,

great lyrics, great chord progression and real
heartfelt delivery.
This is a keeper.

David,
I can hear a generation (mine!) saying " he nailed it!" to this song.... I hope they all get to hear it because its a fine song.
I like your vocal style -just the right amount of world weary in the feeling.

Yes you did nail it. Everything about this is perfect. I really liked your vocals on this one and the lyrics were spot on, especially for this old timer!

This is a keeper.

Super vocal delivery!!! and a sweet write!

sounds a bit bright on my monitors and panned heavy center? (but that could just be my monitors)

Great song!!! I'm a fan of your vocals! and lyrics!

Oh yes! This one's really nice.
Like others said before you sure are getting better and better.
This one particularly has that nice nostalgic feeling which we really dig!

Terrific write, David... you can pull off those type references like no one else - your delivery screams "I believe every word of this!"... a gritty performance - a great blend of Bob and the Boss...

The guitars sound good. I thought the bass needed to be a lot more prominent and the drums a bunch deeper and louder (just opinions, of course) - a snare instead of the stick in the verses... (a big one)...

I really like this!

Almost forgot... that little piece of piano at the end (a mistake?)...extend that some (20 seconds?) and fade it slowly.... I was disappointed when it stopped...

Thanks Floyd, I am working on the drums and piano and a remix even as we speak. Good ideas. The piano was indeed a glitch.

Thanks for the comments.

You are spot on!!

Hey There!

Thanks, yes you are right, I let the compression get away from me on this way. Too bright is right. I will fix it on the next mix.

Thanks for the honesty and the good ear. It's what I need!!

David, his one really speaks to me!! You nailed the feelings that I have. I'm constantly telling young people how lucky I was to grow up in a time where pop music was great, and creativity was exploding, "when the world was real". They think I'm just an eccentric old fart, but you, and most on this forum understand. This song feels like an old friend! Love it!! All the technical aspects were great too but I just got caught up in the song. Wonderful! Take care. Greg

Very cool tune David. I heard a little "Springsteen" peeking out there. Well done

Posted By: David Snyder Re: When the World Was Real - 07/26/16 06:40 PM
Thanks Greg! Hey we're not old, we just remember when people could still play that's all. Couple of funny moments. I saw a review of a guy talking about Nectar on You Tube yesterday and he said "I guess if you can't sing it's cool, but I remember back in the day if you got called in to sing backing vox on Hey Jude, you had to be able to stay on pitch, or you don't have a job. We did't have Nectar. You had to be your own auto tune." I thought that was hilarious.

Not too long ago, I was in a restaurant eating and we were discussing guitar players, and this guy told me that he thought Jimmy Page was a terrible guitar player.

I told him he needed to step outside for a second because we needed to talk.

I think you know what I'm saying.

The great write and your vocal match up very well.

Nice!!
