Our new project:

Closing in

This one was inspired by the British crime drama TV series: The Fall.
Be aware, this is not your usual RnAM song. Nor is the video, which took us weeks to create (and may be slightly brutal to some).
You know that we like to experiment with different styles. This one doesn't sound like BIAB at all but really, it is ;-)
A very special thanks to Brent for his killer solo at the end.

Comments are encouraged.

Lyrics:

Yes it's me again
I'm just standing here, watching you, staying close
I could even find you with my eyes closed
that and more, whenever I wanted to

Now you're in the store
I'm just watching you flirt to the guy behind the register
You're buying lipstick, mascara, eyeliner
You want to pay, oh sure you're gonna pay

Okay, you're out of there
Now from the looks of it you didn't really want him, did you?
Yeah, hell I know what you want, I was in your house
Just climbing a couple of stairs

I was passing some pretty pictures there in the hallway
A good-looking guy, a little child, uh.. two little children
Forget about them, there's only me!

It's time for you to leave that old life behind, as they say
Well, think of it more as leaving this world behind, ha ha ha

The voice like an angel
But what did you mean by 'not wanting me?'
Is there any such thing?
ooh...

Your lights gone out.....

When the first two reviews contain the words "AMAZING", "INCREDIBLE", "SUPERB", "WOW" and "OUTSTANDING" , you know you're in for a treat before you even click on the link!

Any time I see your names attached to a project, my expectations skyrocket... but even from such a lofty starting point I was surprised in a good way by this! You have always been at the forefront of this forum when it comes to video productions, but MAN! This is some cool stuff!

(Translation: I don't know how to do any of it, and I'm jealous but impressed)

The song itself is way edgy compared to your usual relationship songs. But in a way, it's a relationship song too. I can see this being used in an indie film.

I loved the way you made the statue sing. Once I figure out how you did it, I'll be stealing that idea. ;-)

The guy in front of the train with all the facial expressions.. was that a 2d photo that you tweaked to create the movement? If so, I'm very impressed! Very natural looking movement

The 3d faces made of light are also very interesting .. and especially in this song it works as powerful imagery.

Some of the stock pictures and video you used seem too good for anybody to make them available for free! Good job finding this stuff! I know how long it takes to scour the web for usable assets that you can use in videos.

Anyway... great job all around.. I am very impressed by the whole package. If I weren't almost speechless, this would be a lot longer....

Rob and Anne-Marie,

This was way too as you say "brutal" for me since it was written from the point of view of a criminal about to kill someone. So thank you for the warning up front.

My personal taste aside, I thought the song and the video were both very well done. The video was edgy without crossing the gore line with cool effects. The arrangement and production of the song fit the theme well and Rob's vocal was convincing.

Hi R & AM

Yes, very dark, but also very good.

A super song and very innovative - particularly liked the sawtooth synth. Great vocals too.

Some nice touches in the video. Great bit of morphing early on which was very effective. I could easily have seen some more of that.

Very professional all round.

ROG.

Only RnAM can move out of a ‘comfort zone and with their sheer talent create a little masterpiece of intrigue and music

Yeah cool! Outstanding audio and video. Broadcast-ready. Big sound.

Zowie.

Y'all just keep moving the bar higher and higher.

Great use of loops! Was the synth a loop? The vocals are perfect for this. The production and mix are excellent.

The video is one of your best ever. All those things that Pat mentioned... outstanding...

(Brent's solo at times seemed stretched a bit far - phase-y ... but I think that is only because we are all familiar with BIAB and what happens to them when stretched... "outside" listeners would likely not think that...)

RnAM, The music sounds fantastic. Great vocal delivery! The video is astounding. This is among your very best work. Stellar mix as usual. A wonderful multimedia experience. Tom

Sensational. Absolutely professional, and delivered with a massively high standard from every angle.

The video production is absolutely awesome.

Musically creative.

You've excelled and set an extremely high standard with this one.

I really enjoyed this. Top quality production. Are you guys in film and t.v. production? If not you should be. smile

This is great.

Y'all certainly don't rest on your laurels! There are not any adjectives to mention without stealing those that have already been offered. So dittos to what has been said.

The sheer quality of the audio and video production is way off the charts. Non forum folks watching this on YouTube would likely assume that you two have been producing this style for years (maybe you have and we just didn't know it grin )

We like to experiment also but it must be like jumping off a cliff to to step this far away from your base. That's one thing but to pull it off with this level of excellence is amazing.

Kudos

COOL, in a creepy sort of way!! Excellent production all the way (music and video). You did an awesome job with this!! Take care. Greg
Posted By: RnAM Re: CLOSING IN - 08/09/16 09:16 PM
Thank you Alyn!

We try to raise the bar a little with every new production, sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't (when it doesn't we don't post the song ;-)
When we listen back to some of those early recordings we posted on the forum a couple of years back we can clearly notice the lack of a good mastering plug-in.
Lately we're using Ozone 7 and that sure makes a difference!

Thanks again.

Thank you ROG!

About the sawtooth, that was a kontakt instrument, don't remember specifically which one. Downloaded lots of free kontakt instruments ;-)

No the Synth wasn't a loop, but a Kontakt instrument, although I don't remember quite which one (have a bunch of them).

You always do such professional work. Like you said, this is very different from what you have done before. But it came out very "natural" - doesn't sound like it was a stretch for you (I trust you don't really have fantasies of killing someone). smile

Great job on the video.

Wow, it was very different from what you guys usually do. Still very good, just a little creepy as intended in the video I presume which is very well done. The music and vocals sound great, love the guitar solo at the end. Enjoyed.

Kenny
Posted By: RnAM Re: CLOSING IN - 08/19/16 07:04 PM
Thank you Kenny,

Yes this was intended to be kind of creepy.
About the guitar solo, I think it's one of the best we came up with so far.
I love those BIAB soloists especially the ones from Brent Mason.

All that I can add to all that has been said thus far is that you should step out of your comfort zone more often. This is fantastic!

Rob and Anne-Marie,

I don't know what to say... this is ASTONISHING! I sat here transfixed by the music and the video. Absolutely first class entertainment. As others before me have said, you continue to raise the forum's 'bar of excellence'.

I think Pat said it best.... WOW!

All the best,
Noel

Hi Rob and Anne-Marie

You really, really, really, did a great job !
for many reasons ! musically, it's very different, indeed, of your usual music, more rock, country than electro-pop. Few people use this RDrums : UrbanPopEv16Climbing^1-a:Kick, b:Clap (except me I think) smile

Nevertheless, what I like most, it's your video clip, that is great, you are probably the only ones on the forum to make video clips, I understand that it takes time.
