A Million Lies

Big ol crack in the coffee cup starin back at me
How the hell I get into this mess
Round and round it plays again just won't let me be
Caught the Monday mornin Blues I guess

I think I've heard every story that one man ought to hear
Every fabrication in the book
Once again played by the best so I played it by ear
And tried to tell myself that's all it took

Is it easier to walk away or easier to stay
What's passed is past but Does it ever really go away
We sure had some good times we let the good times roll
That was a million lies ago

Tell me that you love me tell me that you care
I just want to hear it once again
Every time you touch me run your fingers through my hair
Makes me forget the pain you put me in

Is it easier to walk away or easier to stay
What's passed is past but Does it ever really go away
We sure had some good times we let the good times roll
That was a million lies ago

Tom

Really great sound - excellent pedal steel and guitars, great vocal & nice harmonies.
Catchy tune with a good lyric. Basically up to your usual top quality standard.

Hi Tom.

Another great track.

Very authentic country-blues sound and fabulous pedal steel.

Super vocal delivery.

My foot was tapping long after the track ended!

Tom,

A very enjoyable song!
I like the chorus lyric hook - and the deadpan way you deliver it.
Really good opening musically and lyrically and its nice to hear you on pedalsteel.
All the elements are up to your high standards.

Tom,

Really enjoyed this; very catchy song.

Agree with all the comments and my highlights were:

- Super smooth pedal steel. Really great playing.
- That guitar tone - is it that gorgeous gold Tele featured on the SoundCloud page?
- Punchy drums that really cut through the mix.
- Vocals and harmonies were all spot on.

Great job,
Jez

ROG, I started working on this after Merle Haggard passed away earlier this year. I looked at his discography and realized I had spent years covering not only his hits but his deep cuts as well. This was a tribute to his sound. Thanks for the nice review. Tom

We're like a broken record...but here it is again...you are so good at taking themes of life that have often been written about and making them sound brand new. This allows you to write about so many folks common experiences but in a way that immediately grabs and holds the listener's attention. And, again repeating ourselves, the writes are never angst ridden or maudlin. They'll rip the paint off of your heart but leave you wanting more.

As always your vocals perfectly reflects the sentiment of the tune. And the production? Man, the soundstage you build is as good as it gets. Loops, RT's, your playing all rolled up in a great seamless package.

Really, Really good!

Tom,

Bud already quoted the chorus... I would do the same... nice write - solid.. "What's passed is past but Does it ever really go away" <<< great line!!

Excellent mix. Drums sound great. Nice fills throughout. The Tele and steel are super....and the fiddle compliments them both - a tapestry, well weaved...

Again, a terrific vocal.

Everything "in the pocket". Enjoyed several listens...

Great Tommyad signature conversational lyric!! Just when I think your production can't get any more pro, you upstage yourself. So crystal clear, it's in the room. And, this is one of the best vocals I've ever heard on the forum. Great playing, great song, stellar production. Don't know what else to say. You've left me speechless! Take care. Greg

Tommy,

You packed so much pure country music into that radio ready 3.25 , production, that it could have stood alone, but to have put the honey on the toast with those lyrics and great vocal it just took it over the top for me.

Wow Tommy! I have to say, I think the song is great!

Now, that being said, THAT production! OMG! It's soooooo clean and full! Are you doing all the mixing and/or mastering? I put some headphones on to listen, and it sounds really really really good to me!

Also, what bass are you using? I probably missed it, but didn't see it listed.

Thanks! Top notch all the way around!

Thanks Caaron. It was mixed in Logic X and mastered in Ozone6. The bass track is not Biab. It is part of a multitrack wav file. Thanks again for your nice comments. Tom
