One More for the Road
By David Snyder

V1

There’s a bar in a small town
On the Georgia Line
With a sign that simply reads “One for the Road”
A handsome man in blue jeans was sitting in the corner
At a table drinking all alone
When sad Darlene offered him another beer
He said no, but bring some wine for my best friend
She said Mister, there ain’t nobody sitting there
Nobody’s been in here since you came in

Pre-Chorus

He said Darlene, I’m sitting here with Jesus now
Cause I’ve been hurtin’ almost as bad you
So if you bring a glass of wine
And if you have a little time
I just might have a couple words of truth

CH:

Yeah, you can you can say I know him
And you can say I owe him
You can say I owe him everything I own
And right now I owe him one more for the road
Right now I owe him one more for the road

V2

So Darlene sat down
and found her cigarettes
and she fumbled for the lighter in her skirt
she told him all the things that men had done to her
how her whole life had been a curse
when looking in the mirror in the morning
she just felt tired and useless in her skin
and if not for the baby she was carrying inside
She sometimes had the dream her life would end

Pre Chorus

But the man said Darlene, you know you’re beautiful
And my friend says that things are ‘bout to change
He said the hardest thing to do
is just forgive yourself
But if you do he’ll handle every other thing

CH:

You can you can say I know him
And you can say I owe him
You can say I owe him everything I own
So I pray that you will listen to every word I say
Let’s just call it one more for the road
Yeah I pray that you will listen to every word I say,
Let’s just call it, let’s just call it, one more for the road
Darlene
It’s one more for the road

FANTATIC!!! I LOVE IT!! Love the beginning with just a floating texture (recognized the dreamy guitar in an instant). Pad sounds so nice (what kind of processing?). Love the way the arrangement builds, and the lyrics are AWESOME-always kept me wondering what was coming up. Heartfelt vocal. This is a gem David!!! Take care. Greg

I agree with Greg. This is an excellent tune. Love the way it starts and your vocal was awesome.

Liked that. Nice pads at the beginning and a jangly guitar sound. Builds nicely and a good story as others have mentioned.

Cheers.
Mike.

Hi David,

Congratulations on yet another worthy Users Showcase contribution.

It seems to me that with each new composition you bring to the forum, you are really honing your writing and production skills. It's easy to hear the effort that you are putting into getting the best creation possible. As I've said before, I admire your imagination and your creativity.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks Greg.

I am not using a lot off effects these, days, very minimal. The only thing on the synth is little bit of Ozone 5--orchestral setting. And there is an echoplex VST on the guitar.

Glad you liked it!

Love this! My favorite of yours so far I think. Great production and writing, and I dig your vocal too.

David,

Love this! You`ve gone to such a cinematic place in the lyrics- the scene is set and we are drawn in to a heart-to-heart that is very powerful.
A fine vocal and atmospheric arrangement tops off one of your best.

David,

I was just watching 'Hell on Wheels'tv series.
For those who don't know this tv series... it is about the very first railroads in America.
This song would fit right in as for atmosphere.
Man, you are so prolific (even more than us laugh )

David,
One of your best.
Great story telling, one of your best vocals & I loved the dynamic when the guitars came in.

Nice, David... I got so caught up in the story I almost missed your great production. Has a real "Kristofferson" vibe about it.

Good job, man. Keep 'em coming.

Greg beat me too it again.

You get stronger with each post. The music gets more interesting - and more "musical". The lyrics get more cinematic - yet, more subtle - a strong combination. Your vocal here is powerful.

The overall combination is very original. Kind of Americana-alt-rock... Snydermuisc.

A terrific listen.

What they both said. Somebody mentioned it already but the write very much reminded us of Kristofferson. That lyric will rip the paint right off of your heart.

Superb!

Another one I nearly missed! Take your eye of this forum for a day or two and you can miss songwriting gold.

Wow! Powerful lyrics accompanied by such a chilled backing . "David Chillout" style is perfect for this track. Is that a User Track?

Excellent job,
Jez

Thanks Jez,

Yeah that is a user defined style I put together.

I think most of the real tracks I used are in the original post.

Thanks a lot! I am glad you liked it! Loved your last one!!

Hello, David

I agree with Greg.
The Beginning of Intro is so beautiful.
The guitar starting with "She said Mister..." of V1 is so nice.
As David said, I also would like to say "Congratulations on yet another worthy Users Showcase contribution. "
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best Regards.
