Bob,
And the sky we are under
Is unlikely common ground
So button-up my raincoat
Waterproof and weather-down
Love those lines! I also liked the gentle melody and fingerpicked guitars... oh and the soothing lalala`s at the end.
A very enjoyable song.
Robert
Excellent rhythm to this song. Excellent vocal and lyric.

Bob

Scott,
Much appreciated - thanks.
Bob
Wonderful tune, Bob. I love the propulsive drums, they really give your vocals a lot of space to wander and explore. Great write and performance!
Rob & Anne-Marie,
Thank you for the kind words.
Bob
You already know I like your lyric writing skills.... this is no exception.
Production: dial back the reverb on the vocal and let it come a bit closer to be more intimate and not so "big space" sounding.
Good song.
Hi Bob,
I've been away from the showcase for a while, but it's good to see that you are still the resident poet! Your lyrics are always awesome! I liked the synergy among all the tracks, but I especially liked what the baritone guitar RT2445 adds to the mix!
You have a very signature sound (IMO) and that can be a two edged sword. Part of your appeal is the uncanny ability to derive complexity from your lyrics while keeping the music pretty basic so it doesn't compete with the message. And that generally works very well in your songs, as it did in the folk songs of the 60s.
In this case, however, I thought that it would benefit the song to mix up the melody and vocal cadence a bit. By my count, there are only 3 notes in the melody, and no bridge or other device to introduce variation. Repeating the same 3 notes with the same cadence for multiple verses becomes redundant pretty quickly.
On the other hand, it's like a mantra. It has a hypnotic trance-inducing effect that calms the soul and plants an ear worm. From a song writers point of view, that's quite an accomplishment.
So... a variety of thoughts on your song, all completely subjective. As such, they say more about me than they say about your song... but I suppose that is the nature of all music reviews.
BTW, I really like the way you package everything you do with very tasteful art work. It's part of your brand, and I think it works very well.
Will,
Thanks. That particular RT style is great to work with.
Bob
Great imagery, really like the melody
that you sing for this, simple lines
captures the feel and mood well
I always look forward to listening to your songs
and enjoy all of them.
Kenny
Very nice as Robert quoted:
"And the sky we are under
Is unlikely common ground
So button-up my raincoat
Waterproof and weather-down"
I think Pat mentioned the mantra feel and we can sense that also. After a couple of listens it really seemed to fit.
We would never have thought those drums would've worked but you have that creative edge that lets you envision how seemingly disparate tracks will work together.
Nice!
J&B
Enjoyed that, Bob.
I like the band... sparse, yet full...
