Here's a new song I thought would be easy to mix and release. Guitar, voice and some sweeteners. Sure didn't turn out that way but it's a step forward, I reckon. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Realtracks for bass and organ. Mixed in Logic Pro X with the addition of acoustic and electric guitars, resonator and blues harp.

We'll Keep the Stars
Don’t stand so close to the window
River below us deep and wide
Come over here and let me hold you
Let’s see if we can turn back time
Night falls slowly in this southern town
Home is but a drink in a foreign bar
They can have it all, they can break us down
No matter what, we’ll keep the stars

We’ll keep the stars though we’re hurting
We’ll keep the stars beyond the dawn
We’ll keep the stars til we’re dead and gone
We’ll keep the stars, we’ll keep the stars

Your suitcase is like a stranger here
The air hangs heavy in the room
I never thought it would end this way
By the light of a Gallic moon
Hold back your shame and your anger too
And I will hold back mine
I’d do it all again to spend this time with you
Your clear blue eyes, your taste like wine

(Repeat chorus)

Wow, I really like this song. Whatever problems you experienced mixing it are long gone, the mix is excellent in my ears. This sounds radio ready. Excellent lyrics, arrangement, performance and production. Enjoyed this one a lot.

A very good song and nicely balanced production ( sounds simple but I can tell alot of work went into this).
Interesting slightly dark Matcham style lyrics and excellent vocal - I enjoyed listening.

Thanks guys seems I'm gaining something of a reputation for my lyric style(!) Yeah production was a long time coming, mainly in working out the arrangement. For a while there I was trying layers of Alchemy synths. Worked out I should just stick to organic instruments. Shoulda known all along.

Nice poetic write and vocal performance! We agree with
all of the above regarding the production. It is classy.

And, yep, as I often mentioned these "airy" productions
with relatively few tracks are much harder to mix than
one would assume.

You pulled it off very well.

Kudos.

Thank you everyone. Peter will be pleased about the harmonica. He's a gentle artist and musician who lives nearby. He's never had any of his stunning songs recorded so I spent the day with him getting quite a few down. He did Stars during a break. One listen. One take. Bam.

Hi!

Well, we don't find anything wrong with mix or arrangement on this. Sounds pretty danged cool to us! Your usual interesting lyric. Perfect use of that organ, too! Sounded like a B3?

Thanks for a great listen! Best to ya,

Alan & Di

I haven't thought of Tom Rush in years. But Peter nailed it. Matcham, This is my new favorite of yours. Great production and write. Bravo! Tom

Well I'm obviously gonna have to look closely into this Tom Rush character. I'm only vaguely aware of him. I do know he wrote No Regrets and that's clearly a high water mark in songwriting. Yep it's a B3 in all its glory. Perfect pad for this style of music. Thanks for the input.

Matcham, you are a very good lyricist and this one puts those skills on display! There are some very emotive chord/melody changes in this that really grab the listener. Very good! Thanks, Torrey
