Shell and I wrote this song back in 1974 when we both lived in Germany and had a band over there. Shell passed away a few years ago and I thought I'd post this in his memory. He was heck of a singer and a great guy. RIP, Shell.

Although lines 2 & 4 rhyme, it's coincidental as no rhymes were intended.

If It Were Possible
© 1974 Shelby Dean Bowling / Alan D. David, BMI (revised 2017)

(v1)
There are no words to be found in Webster’s book
That can describe the love I feel
When you kiss me and tell me you love me
It’s a feeling that’s close to unreal
But perhaps if I use this example
Then possibly it might give you some idea
How your absence makes me feel so empty
And your nearness overwhelms my very soul

CHORUS
If it were possible for you to step into my body
Possess my feelings and emotions as your own
If it were possible for you to see you through my eyes
It might be possible for you to know how I love you

I’ve searched the pages of the greatest works of literature
And although written by the world’s most learned men
I fail to find one single line that’s more powerful
Than when you tell me I am yours and you are mine

CHORUS
If it were possible for you to step into my body
Possess my feelings and emotions as your own
If it were possible for you to see you through my eyes
It might be possible for you to know how I love you

Alan,

That was like stepping back into 1974! A classic Country sound that captures that era perfectly. Has an "early Kristofferson sound/feel" (Ray Price, too).

Good mix. Well sung. Enjoyed it.

I agree with Floyd about the Ray Price thing on this. It does remind me of early to mid 70's country. There are some beautiful chord/melody changes in this one. Sounds great! Thanks, Torrey

Alan,

This is the kind of song that`s so steeped in tradition it makes me think it must be a classic I somehow missed.
I enjoyed everything about this song!

This is a very cool song. Very different from your other songs. I agree with the others on the older country feel to the song. Very well done and super vocal

Hi Alan.

A beautiful song which, like Floyd says, is classic country.

A super choice of RTs all mixed to perfection, but for me the best thing is the vocal delivery. So very intimate and full of expression - very, very, professional.

You're producing some great stuff at the moment - looking forward to your next one!

Cheers, ROG.

Thank you, Floyd. Your comments are always music to my ears. And I hadn't thought about it but you're right - with a little adjustment, this would have a hint of those KK songs that Ray Price took to the top of the charts back in the early and mid 70s. Ray price is my all-time favorite sing - any and all genres. Best to you,

Alan

ROG,

You're costing me money, my friend! All my hats are now too small - need to buy newer, larger ones, thanks to your comments! Thank you so much! I'm devoting a little more time to music than what I had been recently. I'm beyond delighted you're enjoying some of them! Thanks again and wishing you the very best.

Stairway To Heaven intro!!!

There's been some great classic country posted lately

and this is certainly one.

This is smooth and elegant, fine vocals, especially the harmonies

solid write and mix, you got it down Alan

I just saw that it was a 1974 co-write (sounds great today)

Now we know you've heard this one before, probably from us grin
But this really has similarities with:

Willy Nelson

We think that's a compliment (again).

Great song... It really has that 70s country feel - very Charlie Rich-esqe. Really enjoyed it.

Thank you, Kenny! Sure do appreciate those kind comments! And yeah, I went back and forth about using that opening because of the similarity you mentioned. But, why not?

Thanks again! Best to you,

Dear Al and Di,

Maybe I haven't told you lately
how much I love your songs
and maybe I wasn't as good
as I could have been
checking up and logging in

Maybe I should I have said more
often
Dang your songs are fine

But you were always on my mind
Al and Di
You were always on my mind

I'm not as well versed in country as FJ but I can hear some "Sunday Morning Coming Down" or "For the Good Times" vibe in this. I really love the simple, authentic lyrics and pretty melody. Excellent stuff!! Take care. Greg

Ha! Loved that, David! Your creative talent has no bounds! We don't worry about when folks do or don't stop in for a listen and leave a word or two. We know how "life" can get in the way of a lot of things. Besides, you rarely miss one.

We appreciate all that! We're delighted you enjoy what we do. We work hard at making them as good as we can. I'm getting a little extra education on the side about how to better exploit the tricks and whistles & bells of BIAB and Real Band that's gonna make a big difference in the quality of our music. We're looking forward to using that education in the near future.

Thanks again! best to you.

Hello Greg,

Thank you so much for that very kind reply to our song. "For The Good Times" is exactly what Shell and I had in mind as the project progressed. "For The Good Times" and "I Won't Mention It Again", both KK writes, had gone to the top of the Country charts not long before this song was written. Shell and I both really liked the songs, so it ended up going in that direction.

Shell had written almost all the lyric a year or so before and wasn't sure where to go with the music. He originally had it as a 3/4 waltz. i thought it flowed better as a 4/4 ballad. This is where it ended up.

Thanks again. Wishing you the best,

Alan & Di - Shell, too

Alan, This sure does capture the era. I loved the walk down intro and outro. Very well mixed and produced. A great listen, Tom

Alan and Di,

This is really wonderful. It truly is like stepping back in time. You've done a really good job putting this together. The interrupted cadence that led into the extended ending took me by surprise (as it's supposed to) and made me think... "Now that's what I call a classy ending! Very very effective."

I really enjoyed this a great deal and I'm heading back for more, now.

All the best to you both,
Noel

Hello, Alan & Di

As Intro. started with a minor cliché descending by semitones, I thought that a minor melody will follow momentarily.
But it was superbly overturned and a classical beautiful major melody began.
I thought your vocal was very good for this song.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Love fj's description of Ray Price!

A veritable time capsule back to when it was well worth the time to turn on country radio.

Yep, we like it!

Howdy Folks!

Why, thank you so much. We certainly do appreciate your kindness. We really hadn't made the Ray Price - Kris Kristoferson connection, but as soon as we read Floyd's comment we looked at each other and said "Duh! Why didn't we see that?"

Thanks again. Wishing you bothe the very best.
