The Magic Touch

A blues collaboration with Bud & Janice.

Leon re-wrote the lyric with Janice in mind to a song we had stashed in the archives.

Janice kindly sang (wonderfully) and transformed the song.

I played the acoustic and slide guitar.

Thanks to Bud for support and recording Janice.

The rest of the band:
RealTracks in song: ~539:Bass, Electric, Pop Sw 120
RealTracks in style: ~1854:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm CountryBoogie Sw 110
RealTracks in song: ~425:Organ, B3, Background Blues Sw 120
RealDrums in style: JazzBrushes: a: Brushes Swirling b: Brushes Busier

The Magic Touch

Honey I know I think too much
I’m aware of that
It’s true I get emotional
My moods can fade to black
But whenever I lay eyes on you
I just have to smile
You make me think that life is good
And living it worthwhile

You amuse me
You enthuse me
With a feeling that my life
May be worth living after all

I knew when I laid eyes on you
You were the real McCoy
I hope you can believe me
When I say that you’re my joy
Cause honey I wouldn’t lie to you
At least ways not too much
You’re the reason I’m going on
You’ve got that magic touch

You amuse me
You enthuse me
With a feeling that my life
May be worth living after all

Honey I know you like to think
You’re a man of gravitas
And shows of strong emotion
You regard as hazardous
But whenever I lay eyes on you
I just have to smile
You make me think that life is good
And living it worthwhile

You amuse me
You enthuse me
With a feeling that my life
May be worth living after all
Janice / Bud / Peter,

Another great collaboration! Love the song - Janice really drives it home with her "slow-burn" vocal... Just great stuff. Stellar mix as well.

Also, love the slide solo - sounded like you had Jack White at the session to play for you - really excellent!

Bob
Yeah! I new I was going to like this even before I pressed play.

Great stuff, I could listen to music like this all day.
Good write, lyrics are a cut above what you hear in a typical blues song. Killer job on the slide guitar, and Janice is doing her usual cool thing.

Nice collab, enjoyed the listen!
Peter, Janice & Bud,

You've delivered another great collaboration.

This is a great laid-back country-blues

"You amuse me"
"You enthuse me"
Marvelous lines, and then followed by a strong lead break.

Thoroughly enjoyable, great work, team.
Peter, Leon,Janice and Bud, This is another fine collab. Well written, sung, played, and produced. A nice smooth country blues that sits well on the ear and doesn't have any missteps. I liked it a lot! Tom
What a tune, you guys! Great job, all of you smile As always, Janice's vocals on this are absolutely superb. I really like the lyrics on this as well, it adds a really unique dynamic to it. And that solo that kicks in just before the 2 minute mark is incredible!

A great song from front to back - thanks so much for sharing smile

Hello, Peter, Janice & Bud

Another great collaboration!
Very orthodox blues song!
Janis's vocals are perfect for this song.
The slide guitar is also very nice.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
Peter, Leon, Janice, (Bud)...

A strong write - especially for a "blues" number...

Nice arrangement. The acoustic work is really nice! - very well recorded. (Slide is nice, too). A nice "crispness" to everything...

That girl can sing anything, it seems. And gets better with every single recording (How can that be????)

A terrific listen.

Thank you Dave. I really appreciate your support!

Janice
Dear Bud, PeterF, & Ms. Janice...

"PeterF": "The Magic Touch" has a nice n' easy, laid-back kind'a rhythm that inspired this listener to join in with some impromptu whistling! The feel of the song is just that inviting as it conjures up a lazy, timeless mood that is evocative of a small town at the height of a hot afternoon, where a lady might sit in the shade of her front porch and daydream about her man...

Ms. Janice, your storytelling voice fills up even the spaces where you don’t sing, 'cause it makes us want to follow it wherever it goes.

"Bud": Being behind the scenes recording the song actually only proves that what you can't see has everything to do with what you hear! Your "invisible" presence at the controls is as strongly felt as the quiet moment when a birthday boy or girl makes a silent wish before blowing out the candles on the cake.

What is the instrument that comes in wailing at around 1:50? Sounded simultaneously like a bass harmonica and an overdriven gee-tar! Regardless, for me its effect was to express the deeper, gutsier feeling under the politely passionate lyrics.

All in all, a "stop the world, I wanna get off" kind'a tune.

LOREN

P.S. Where in the forums do BIAB users congregate to collaborate? I posted the question elsewhere but haven't received a response yet. Thanks!

This song epitimises the talent on this PGM forum and long may it continue.

Thank you Tom. It was fun and I quickly found that it was very "singable." My word that Bud kids me about!

Janice
Peter, Leon, Janice and Bud,

What I'm hearing through my headphones right now is another shining example of an outstanding forum collaboration.

Peter, your guitar work is excellent.... skillful, considered and a perfect fit.

Leon, the lyric rewrite was definitely worth the effort. I don't think I've ever heard the 'amuse me/enthuse me' rhyme anywhere before.

Janice, you OWN this style of music! Your singing carries us listeners along on the vocal equivalent of a magic carpet ride. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you.

In a nutshell, this is very, very good music.

All the best to you all,

There is really wonderful y'all.

The instrumentation--live and RTs--is perfect. Really crisp guitar playing, Peter, that sits perfectly in the mix and sounds completely pro.

I really like the rich, professional studio quality sound of this, right down to the mastering.

Of course, excellent vocals by Janice as always--and great vocal recording work Bud.

Great job everyone.

Thanks Deryk - totally agree Janice's vocals are absolutely superb.

Peter
Excellent choice of instruments for this song. The acoustic guitar is full and sweet. and I appreciate the restraint you employ on the slide solo with that touch of flare in the the last measure or two.

Janice, I think I'm starting to hear a flair of ragtime in your blues (lol). Maybe it is harkened by the piano in this song, but it is part of what gives you a unique signature.

Well done everyone!

Thank y'all so much! Bud wanted me to mention that Peter did the "knob twisting" on this one smile

Torrey, thank you. I loved the song from the first moment I heard it. Peter and Leon wrote a fine tune.
