BLUE SOUTHERN SKY

Growing up in Florida, beneath that southern sun
Almost like paradise, but life has just begun
Sunday morning drive to the beach in a yellow Spitfire
girl beside me smiling, as the sun rises higher
I really don’t care if we ever get there
I remember the moment, the promise in the air
Looking over, I see the sun reflecting in her eyes
under that blue southern sky

Passing Yeehaw Junction, her legs just out of reach
crossing 441 on the way to Vero Beach
this road goes on forever, so I push it to the floor
Creeping to a hundred, can't expect any more
a perfect day, got my girl by my side
in my yellow car, any chance to take a ride
and so it seems that all my dreams
have left me flying high
under that blue southern sky
under that blue southern sky
it's been years yet I can't forget
that morning in July
under the blue southern sky
under the blue southern sky

Hi Will,

I always like these autobiographical songs. No exception here. I have good friends in Florida - one on Pinellas Park and the other in Satellite Beach.

My best friend in high school had a red Spitfire. We road around the local college campus, thinking the college girls would find us high school guys pretty hot. We were so wrong!

Enjoyed the song a lot. Nice backing tracks for the it. Wishing you well,

Alan

Thanks for the listen and the kind words. The one thing Tom Petty and I shared was growing up in Florida, so rather than imitate his music, I tried to honor him with a song about our shared youth. You only references to Petty are the mention of Highway 441 and the use of the Rickenbacker 12-string.

Oh wow, yellow spitfire! I feel not like many people remember those cars. Really great imagery in your song, Will. You did a really great job on this one. It made me miss the warmer weather.

Thanks for sharing.

Great tune Will! That organ really does glue the tune together. Very mid-summer vibe to this. Thanks for sharing! smile
