Casting Pearls Before Swine
By David Snyder

V1

Everybody pick a number
Go ahead and stand in line
You know we can’t get any dumber
Casting pearls before swine
You can cast them at the altar
You can cast them at the bar
You can cast them at the lottery
Or that new and shiny car
You can cast them at the phonies
You can cast them at the fakes
You can cast them at that cement wall
Just before you hit the brakes

V2

You can cast them at the accolades
They hand out after school
Once they taken all your money
And they’ve just made you a fool
In the land of Simon Coward
You can cast them at the stage
When they’ve stripped you of your faith
You can cast them at your rage
You can cast them at the President
And all the members of the feast
When they tell you that you need them
They’re no better than a thief

CH

Everybody wants you shackled
They want your money and your soul
But you didn’t ask to come here
You never asked to be sold

V3

You can cast them at your parents
If you need call their bluff
You can cast them at your shrink
When you say you’ve had it rough
You can cast them at the heavens
If your heart’s run out of love
You can cast them at the preacher
When he says you’re not good enough
You can cast them at the river
You can cast them at the sun
You can cast them at your lover
Just the way you’ve always done

CH

Everybody wants to shackle you
They want your money and your soul
But you didn’t ask to come here
You never asked to be controlled

V4

Better run for the border
Better make your great escape
Let’s saddle up those horses
And ride before daybreak
We’ll leave everything behind us
Freedom for Freedom’s sake
And you can tell the watchman
I’ve had all that I can take
Hurry up now princess
You know we’re running out of time
Don’t leave me stranded in the dust, honey
Casting pearls before swine

CH

Everybody wants us baby
They want our money and our souls
But we didn’t ask to come here
We didn’t asked to be sold
Everybody wants us shackle us
They all want full control
We gotta make a border crossing
Before our bodies get too old
Come on quickly now
you know we’re running out of time
Don’t leave me stranded here in Babylon
Casting pearls before swine
Last time I talked to God
He had something else in mind
And I can see the New Jerusalem
And I need to cross the finish line
I won’t waste another second
Casting pearls before swine
Before swine

Reminds me of a Bob Dylan song. I like it, COOL!!

Yeah, you definitely have your Dylan hat on for this one.

Man! Really, really good, David! I'm in awe of your talent.

I'm listening over on reverbnation and Captain Midnight started playing right after this one, so I'm listening to that one again as I type this smile

Great lyrics David and early Bob Dylan style.
But very much your own thing also.
Very entertaining.

Cheers.

Great end of 60's style. Somewhere in the song, I feel Bob Dylan's style.
Very well done. Super performance and lyrics.

David

You've paid a nice homage to Dylan and it works well. Excellent set of lyrics with a Dylanish melody.
Nicely done all round.

David,

I love when you write and sing in this style - you do it SO WELL!

Great, great song, production and vocal...

"Better run for the border
Better make your great escape
Let’s saddle up those horses
And ride before daybreak"

EXCELLENT!

This song definitely has a very classic 'David Snyder' flair to it! Always a pleasure to listen to your stuff. Thanks for sharing, and fantastic lyrics. smile

David, you have an amazing ability to channel the style of many different famous artists. Bob Dylan obviously comes to mind in this one and you did such a wonderful job with it! I don't know how you can turn around so fast and come up with another great song so quickly (usually I have close to a month invested in a new song) but you do! I admire your work! Thanks, Torrey

David,

You have a unique and terrific style! Nobody could ever imitate your style and creativity. You're one of a kind - but it's a terrific kind. Loved the lyric - lots of truth there.

Another super production and fabulous song! Keep em coming!

I always read your lyrics before I listen to your songs David. There is always so much cool stuff going on with your words. This was such a cool tune. I also got the Dylan vibe on this. Very creative and super dell very

Nice work, David! I'm definitely getting a Bob Dylan vibe on this one - with the usual David Snyder touch, of course smile One thing I really liked the lyrics on this. They are vivid, and definitely evoke a feeling. Also, the arrangement is extremely professional sounding and all around, it's just a well written tune smile

Thanks so much for sharing!

My all time favorite Dylan songs are Positively 4th Street, Highway #51 Revisited, and, who could forget, "Desolation Row." You know I like this one, David S.

From the vault comes a long lost Blonde on Blonde cut.

We are not gonna parse it out David. This is so damn good.

The topical lyric is spot on and the delivery is perfecto.

Your additional instrumentation (organ..you?) and the BiaB band are amazing.

WOW!

Did you happen to listen to Bob Dylan all day when you wrote this song?
Striking resemblance, great job!

Excellent Dylan tribute David.
I could've dug a slightly more strident harmonica blast at some stage and a less modern drum sound to make the illusion even more effective but it's very cool as is.
How about a Pearls Before Swine tribute - I reckon you could get some Tomm Rapp tone happening.

David,

What a write! What a production!

I'm pretty sure that I heard the 'personal best' bar, ratchet up a few notches with this one.

You've taken the phrase "cast your pearls before swine" and swivelled it around and around and around in a spiral of inent from both a lyric and a production perspective. It's kind of like song-creating on vitamin tablets!

Very impressive!

All the best,
Noel

Day-Um man....!!

I can say I knew you when you were just a struggling writer from Raleigh....

This is your best write and recording yet. The song is so Dylan that I suspect you'll be getting a lawsuit notification shortly from Zimmerman's attorney.

The lyrics are genius. The kind that people can ponder and discuss the brilliance and meaning for weeks and months.

Yep... I like this one.
