Hello all, I have been doing A lot of gospel stuff lately so I thought I would do something different or a change.
I have been listening to a lot of Americana music lately. The inherent rawness of some of it reminds me of when rock and roll was like that. I loved that era. Anyone could take a project into a radio station and (Depending on how good it was) It would be on the Radio within the hour. Over the years that came after, that became almost impossible, due to the mainstream record companies monopoly on what we could hear. Glad to say, things have turned around, but I still like to go back and visit the old stuff from time to time. I hope you like this one, as I enjoyed doing it.

Daddy was a hell of a man

My boots touched down on the hard packed ground
of a dusty Tennessee back road
with a beat up Martin and a suitcase in my hand
I don't rightly now where I'm coming from
all I know for sure is where I've been
but I've heard tell that my daddy was a hell of a man

in a rundown road side café In a downtrodden part of town
a waitress with heartache eyes looked me up and down
she said, My name is Delores but my friends all call me sweet thing
and I'm here to tell you Son, your Daddy was a hell of a man

I've heard tell that my daddy was a hell of a man
but there's a mighty big difference in a sex machine
and an upright family man
I loved him then, and I love him still
just so you know where I stand
but there's a whole lot of women
thought my daddy was a hell of a man

My daddy believed in matrimony
but he couldn't do one at a time
he could walk the walk and he could talk that talk
but he just couldn't walk the line
there's a heap of difference in a life of commitment
and a backstreet one night stand
but there's a whole lot of women
thought my daddy was a hell of a man

repeat chorus

Gary,

A very good write with a cool JJCale feel to the song.
Is that you on guitar? - nicely done!
I enjoyed this slightly edgier side to your songwriting.

Your daddy may have been a hell of a man but you are a hell of a musician!

This song has exactly what it needed to make it a winner, strong vocal, excellent lyrics and the perfect backing tracks.

Hi Gary,

It's been a while. Sure glad I got here to this fabulous song. Your music is always so down to earth. Love the production - those drums are so sweet - the guitar and b/g voices sure do fill up the space with some sweet sounds. As always, your voice and lyric shine bright. Super stuff!

That last verse has some great lines - you hit the sweet spot with that pen (keyboard?). best to you.

This is a fine production. The write, the vocal, backing tracks and arrangement are all in step with one another.

The mix sounds good on our monitors.

Americana is a wonderful tent. Roots rock, blues, al country, bluegrass and folk now have a place to thrive. We live there smile

Well done!
