THERES STRAY DOGS A HOWLING
AND THE SUN HURTS MY EYES
AND THE NEIGHBOURS JUST WATCH ME FALL IN
THESE MEMORIES THAT WONT
LEAVE ME ALONE IN THE NIGHT
HAVE STARTED ME DRINKING AGAIN

I DRINK TO FORGET HER I DRINK TO MOVE ON
I CANT FIGHT THIS DEMON WITHIN
AND EVERY TIME I HEAR OUR FAVORITE SONG
IT STARTS ME A DRINKING AGAIN

I DRINK TO FORGET BUT NEVER FORGET TO DRINK
ITS A PRICE I MUST PAY FOR MY SINS
AND COME CLOSING TIME WHEN LONELENESSS CALLS
IT STARTS ME A DRINKING AGAIN

Such a sad song. Was this by chance for the sad song challenge people were doing in the other subforum? Either way, it's a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing.

Brad,

The slow, modern waltz accompaniment is a perfect fit for this composition.

Your lyrics and the way you sang them filled my speakers with the sounds of reflection, regret, loneliness and sadness. You managed to capture all the emotions needed to make this a very listenable journey.

Thank you for sharing.

Regards,
Noel

Classic tear in my bear song. Well done. Rob

Wow - you really bared your soul here. There's nothing that hits quite like an old school sad country tune. Your vocal deliver on here drives the point here, and lends merit to the lyrics. Very believable, and very sincere to the ears.

Not a thing I'd change on this one - thanks for sharing smile

Brad/John/BigLad,
I was really happy when the vocal wasn't shouted as the capitalized lyric suggested they might be.
This is a near perfect country drink'n song: you've covered the traditional bases - dogs, rejection, drinking, jilted lover & a clever twist to turn a phrase in on itself.
I don't know about tears in my bear (sic) as Rob suggested but definitely sobs in the suds, blubberin' into the Burbon and tears in the tequila.
This song would've fitted on Elvis Costello's country LP Almost Blue.

Sounds like something George Jones might have sung back in the day

Hi Brad,

I have to agree with Herb on this one. Definitely a George Jones bent. Super job. For what it;'s worth, perhaps just a tad more reverb on the vocal.

That fiddle lead is great!
