This is my first song posting on this Forum.
The music was done 100% on BIAB.
I used several instrument styles to accomplish this feel.
Like "Driving British Rock Guitars", and a Celtic fiddle.
Lyrics below.
Enjoy.

"FOOL'S GOLD"

Lyrics:

They said go west young man, and, if you have a plan,
You'll find fame and fortune on every corner.
But I soon came to see, things ain't always as they seem.
And what I thought was paydirt was just a flash in the pan.

Only Fool's Gold. It's all I've ever seen.
Nothin' but Fool's Gold is meant for me.
I've been grub-steaked, half-baked in a California sun,
And home I come,
With nothin' but Fool's Gold.

Now, I'm on my way back from where I came.
And in my pockets all I find is empty.
'Cause a better place and time is only in your mind.
And California won't give up her mother lode.

Only Fool's Gold. It's all I've ever seen.
Nothin' but Fool's Gold is meant for me.
I've been grub-steaked, half-baked in a California sun,
And home I come, Home I come.

Instrumental Bridge:

Nuthin' but Fool's Gold. It's all I've ever seen.
Nothin' but Fool's Gold is meant for me.
I've been grub-steaked, half-baked in a California sun,
And home I come,
With nothin' but Fool's Gold.

Welcome to the Showcase... a very nice entrance...

Nice use of BIAB. A well recorded vocal. And a very good mix... I'd guess this isn't you first BIAB song. Well done.

Welcome to the forum!

The first thing I noticed was the stereo separation on instruments. Nice fiddle and mandolin. Well sung. Punchy chorus - I like the harmonies on "Nothing but Fool's Gold". Solid mix, good use of instruments.

Nice song.

Cool stuff.
If you like the combo of driving Brit rock and Celtic embellishment have a listen to Horslips - Book of Invasions, The Tain and the Man Who Built America.
You've recorded your vocals really well. What was your signal chain and processing?

BIGALTX,

First off, welcome to BIAB! I’m pretty much a newbie myself, but I think you’ll find this a very receptive and supportive forum.

Not sure if this is your first foray into BIAB software, but if it is I’m pretty jealous—you’ve done some really nice things here. For me, the opening was a bit too fast and loud—like being slung right off into a tornado—so, and this is just my two cents, think about opening up a little more softly and building from there.

LIke the lyrics—they carry the tune well. I’m not familiar with the phrase “grub-steaked” but no matter—the meaning comes through. Oh, and by the way, very nice vocal. Really enjoyed my listen.

All the best,

Deej

Welcome to the forums Alan! A really powerful first submission too. The harmonies on the chorus are unreal, and the lyrics are really intriguing and full of imagery. That aside, the mix is crisp and sounds super professional.

Looking forward to hearing more from you - thanks for sharing smile

Welcome to the forum. This is a great song growing to the end, sort of Irish rock, I really like the fiddle and mandolin combination. The chorus is very catchy and your vocals sound excellent.

It's an old "Gold Miner" term.
Maybe I watch too many old westerns smile

Great entry song! It sounds like this ain't your first rodeo.
