This was actually my first introduction to BIAB. I had written and recorded a song called Seven Days in Vegas, that was primarily guitar driven, that I posted in another forum. I had envisioned a Springsteen type arrangement. Floyd heard it and contacted me, offering to provide some BIAB tracks, including piano, to solidify a more Springsteen like arrangement. He sent me some piano tracks, a rhythm guitar track, an organ track, as well as drum and bass tracks, from BIAB. I am uncertain of what particular files were used. However, I soon thereafter ordered BIAB for myself. I was hooked. Floyd also kindly agreed to add backing vocals to this song. Everything on here is BIAB, except the lead guitar, acoustic guitar and a portion of the bass, which were played by me. As I recall, there may be some drums, as well, which had been programmed with Drummer, in Logic X, which is where I mixed all the tracks. Lead vocal is me, with Floyd on backing vocals.

INTRO
VERSE 1
Seven days in Vegas
I spent searching for the prize
Now I'm back in Southern Jersey
Manufacturing a lie
From the Gulf of Mississippi
To the Atlantic City shore
I've rolled the dice too often
When I win I just want more

CHORUS
I'm livin' in a ghost town
My ex calls me a clown
Livin' in a ghost town
Her lawyer's got me down
The bank just called my mortgage
And my odds ain't looking real good
Seven days in Vegas (x3)
There's only crap
Where I once stood

VERSE 2
I was dealt two bullets
So I split without a thought
The ten grand for her necklace
Was just the tragic loss
The dealer turned a dewey
As I choked back on the bile
A deuce was soon to follow
And the dealer cracked a smile

CHORUS
BRIDGE

I hit a natural high
When I turn a one eyed jack
But then the next card rolls
Just like a knife in the back
It seems with table games
I've lost my little knack
It's really no big deal
Tomorrow I'll hit the track

SOLO
CHORUS

Superb work - really powerful, and nicely emulates the Springsteen sound.
Strong vocal, nice guitar solo, great mix and wonderful backing vocals by floyd.
A really pro sounding piece of work all round.

Awesome vocal. Very cool backtrack. Excellent choice of instruments. Backup vocals where very cool as well. Neat intro and loved when the guitars kicked in. My kind of tune. Very cool guitar solo...
Man, I like that. It's got that early Bruce vibe to it. Well done. loved the piano start to it..... was actually hoping and expecting it to go back to piano for the ending....and you did..... didn't disappoint me.

well done guys.

Both Floyd and I lived in South Jersey for a time.....in pretty much the same area. Me, from birth in the 50s until early 70's when I joined Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, pulled up stakes, and moved out. When they opened the casinos in Atlantic City, a friend in the neighborhood would go and play cards on the weekend and apparently, he was fairly successful at it, and another guy from the same neighborhood.....all buddies of mine, won a cool million+ pulling handles. Of course, it didn't last very long in the hands of those guys...... meanwhile, Bruce was just down the road banging out club dates at the Jersey Shore collecting grist for his biggest hits. Boardwalks, jacked up cars, and boys in their high heels..... ah Sandy, their skins are so white.......

You have a good song there. I enjoyed it.

This is fantastic. Very strong vocal, good job on that! Your backing tracks are spot on. If Springsteen sang this I doubt it would be this good.

Dave,

What Peter said...and I`ll add that the details in the lyrics are cool - I think I know a bit more about Vegas now!
Well done to both you and Floyd.

Robert
Excellent! Certainly has a Springsteen quality about it.

Love the lyrics and vocal, and Floyd sounds great during the chorus too.

Enjoyed the listen!

Yeah this is great man. Definitely some Bruce, but I think it sounds like you, really.

Glad Floyd found you and got you hooked on BIAB. You have been churning out some great stuff. Your songs have a lot of passion and energy.

Keep it up!!!

This is outstanding!!!! Right from the start, this was bursting with 'professional'. You've done a really spectacular job composing, performing, arranging and mixing.

Nailed!!

We've never spent 7 seconds in Vegas but, wow, does that lyric ever grab you. The imagery is outstanding...very visual.

You are a roll. Every here is high bar. The mix sounds excellent and ALL the performances are top notch.

Thx much for the comments. We have similar backgrounds. I grew up in South Jersey (Cherry Hill) and spent many a Summer in Ventnor, NJ taking Summer jobs on the AC Bdwlk and occasionally in the casino hotels. I used to get off work at midnight and play blackjack until the wee hours (not a very good way to make a living). All the while the Boss was my soundtrack - from Blinded By The Light To Sandy to E Street Shuffle to Meeting Across The River. It never got old to me and still doesn’t.

Thx for the listen.

Cherry Hill... did you ever go to Gino's there? I was an assistant manager there (about 1979 and/or 80). Lived in Lindenwold '78-80 (as best I can recall - fuzzy times - back when gas was 29 cents a gallon during the gas wars - and when the pumps ran out). [Gino's was a Jersey fast food chain that had everything - burgers like Roy Roger's, roast beef like Arby's, salad bar AND the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise throughout NJ and the Philly area]

Did you ever go to STARS - the showcase club in Philly - 2nd & Bainbridge? - I placed first in a city-wide talent search that was put on by WMMR - great station! - and then became an opening act at the club for some of the national acts that came through... Ah, to be young again!. Were you old enough to get into a club in 1980?... probably not... kids!.

(sorry for the "about me" thread hijack... just thought it was cool we were there at the same time...and it did give you a bump wink )

Hey Floyd,

Really appreciate your help on this one and glad to be here on forums. I do remember Gino’s btw, but I can’t say I went there a lot. In Cherry Hill, my restaurant of choice for some late night fries with cheese and gravy was Ponzios Diner. They are still around. I graduated Cherry Hill East High School in 81, so I cant say I was a frequent club goer st that time, though WMMR, 93.3 was indeed the bomb. I had the cassette deck ready to go every time a Springsteen show was being broadcast live! Michael Tearson had my attention much of the time. Philly and South Jersey also had some good radio at 94.1 WYSP and 102.5 (WIOQ) with Ed Sciaky. I am not familiar with STARS, but used to see concerts all the time at The Tower Theatre in Upper Darby and The Main Point in Bryan Mawr. Every once in awhile, we could catch a show at The Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, as well. It is gone now. Back then there were some great local acts that were either on the verge of breaking big or actually did. I was lucky enough to catch The Hooters early on, as well as The A’s, Robert Hazard & The Heroes, John Eddie (then John Eddie and The Front Street Runners),etc. Good times for sure! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Definitely getting those Boss vibes - very reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen, which is always a good thing in my books. I love the progressions, and your vocals and the lyrics are phenomenal. Not to mention, the mix is clear and professional sounding. I wouldn't bat an eyelash if I heard this on the radio.

You should be proud of this one thanks for sharing smile

Dave, this one really rocks! The piano on the first part and the outro is a nice touch. Excellent vocal and floyd’s bg vocals are just right. The drums sound super. Nice solo. Very well done and I look forward to following you. Tom

It held my interest from beginning to end

a great write, some super imagery

a very Bruce sounding "Seven Days In Vegas" line

loved the arrangement and overall sound

I would've changed the lines

There's only crap
Where I once stood

but it certainly conveys the down and out assessment of the character

and the thing is that you have a fleshed-out character that's relatable

that's more than 99% of songwriters do or maybe even understand.
