This is another one from 'Waiting in the Wings' album. I sent this as a rough blues-style tune to Donna and she came back with a great lyric. I'd never have come up with a lyric like this and if translated to UK it would be 'Baby at the Transport Cafe' which I think you'll agree sounds lame! The RealTracks and style I used are listed at the end. I added my own piano, I played the guitar solo and then I added my VST resonator links plus some Shimmer, Shake, Strike VST percussion. Oh and occasional extra cymbals from Addictive Drums.

Here's Donna's lyric:

Honey at the Truck Stop
Music & Lyrics © Tony Cliff and Donna Evans 2018

Verse 1
Twenty two, feeling blue
Working like mama used to
Slingin’ coffee eggs and bacon
Driver’s breakfast waitin’
Some joke with good tips
Or nasty talk loose lips
One guy’s her desire
‘Cos he ignites her fire

Chorus
She’s his honey at the truck stop
Who wants to be by his side
Yeh the honey at the truck stop
Can’t wait to be his bride

Verse 2
Thinks about her all the time
On deliv’ries the daily grind
Can’t wait to see his best girl
The one that turns his world
Blonde hair and so flashy
Tight jeans dressin’ sassy
He’ll spend an extra day
For a little getaway

Chorus

Bridge
This small town she knows
No place to shine or go
She dreams bright stage lights
Exciting marquee nights
Drivin’ trucks for years
Was stuck in second gear
Now he’s inspired
To drive all those miles

Verse 3
He thinks about settlin’ down
In her backwoods town
Maybe boring ev’ryday
But love makes it OK
She wants to spread her wings
Even if she wears his ring
He’s her ticket to ride
And she’s flying high

Chorus

Nice light arrangement.
Nice song.
Sometimes the bvocal is a little too present but that's OK.
I really liked your additions.

Loved the resonator. Excellent vocal and backtrack

I've listened to three tracks from the album now. This could easily be the hit song, that would put you on the map... Very nice song!

The brit-blues backing and vocal are sweet. The lyrics are really good. If I didn't know them both already (I kinda do), I know them now.

This is my fave from the album so far.

Tony & Donna,

Another interesting write and pleasant listen. All flows nicely.

The resonator works nicely. The acoustic lead is especially nice.

Enjoyed.

Dear "funkycornwall" & Ms. Belladonna...

Know what I like the most about "Honey At The Truck Stop"? The bone-simple, yet deeply-felt yearning for an "until death do us part" kind of romantic companionship that the lyrics convey:

He thinks about settlin’ down
In her backwoods town
Maybe boring ev’ryday
But love makes it OK

Ooo-wee! The power of love. Kills boredom, even. I'll take me a big ol' bottl'a that, puh-leez! Four brief lines of verse that frame a picture of loving desire. Mmm, good!

Or, this:

Thinks about her all the time
On deliv’ries the daily grind
Can’t wait to see his best girl
The one that turns his world

Immediately, the song pulled me headlong into his irresistibly sweet daydream, which is everybody's daydream, ain't it?

The feel of the music is care-free, lightly rollicking, and sunny, the perfect sound to express the perfect joy. It's an invitation to the listener to share your obvious dee-light in the future happiness you hope is comin' your way.

Ms. Belladonna, you just can't help putting a beating heart in your lyrics, now, can you? Mr. Cliff, you done Ms. Belladonna a good turn. Thanks for the "honey" you two put in my ear!

All's well that sounds well,

LOREN (a.k.a. "bluage")

Hi Bluage, So nice to hear from you again, it's been way too long. Always love, love your comments which are like poetry itself. Thanks for your wonderful words and I hope life is treating you well.

(Tipping my imaginary hat to you) smile

Ms. Belladonna, it is a fine and deeply-experienced pleasure to observe you enlarging the impact of Mr. Cliff's music by applying your obvious, undeniable gift of lyric writing to it smile

Life is treating me as well as I can wrangle what I need out of it. I hope as much for you, too!

Sincerely and respectfully,

LOREN (a.k.a. "bluage")

Tony and Donna,

This is a shining collaboration.

Everything sits comfortably and flows smoothly. As I hear it, this collaboration 'works' with each of you playing to other's strengths. Kudos to you both.

I found this particular groove very inviting and, although I have no idea when it started, when the song finished, I realised that my right foot had been tapping along. I like to think that my right foot is a pretty good judge of enjoyable music!

All the best to you both,
Noel

Very nice story in an upbeat pop song. Enjoyable chord progression. The jazzy parts remind me of Mark Knopfler.
