Blue Stew

One of the most fun things to do as a guitarist is to jam with other players, I used to do that quite often back in the day. Nothing too serious, just having fun with the music.

Peter and I did a jam together about a year ago and thought it was time we did another. Last time we jammed over an Albert King type groove, this time up we were shooting for a Statesboro Blues (ABB) feel.

I start things off and do the first 12, and we swap back and forth after that.

The rest of the band:

RealTracks in song: 1583:Bass, Electric, TexasBluesRockShuffle Sw 130
RealTracks in style: ~425:Organ, B3, Background Blues Sw 120
RealTracks in style: 2436:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm NewOrleansShuffle Sw 130
RealDrums in Song: BluesRockShuffle^1-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Open HiHat

Song is also up on soundcloud but sounds better on reverbnation, link at the top of the page.

Thanks, Peter! smile
Ohh you are talking with those guitars!

I deeply believe that the most creative music is born from jams because one (or more smile ) can just relax and follow the mood.

Dave & Peter nice job!

P.S. I also liked handshake avatar!
Dave / Peter,

You guys sound great together! The guitars are outrageously good - love the backing tracks and mix as well.

Excellent!

Bob
Some blue stew cooked up piping hot!!! And with plenty of spice!! Great sounding track.....drums and bass are tight and guitar oozes with feeling!! Great stuff guys!! Take care. Greg
Man that was awesome Dave! That was one of the best exhibitions of blues I've heard, not to mention the variety of killer tone on display here!! Great work! Thanks, T
BlueAttitude (and Peter F):

Some very cool blues you got going on with some killer guitar. Could chill in a dive bar somewhere with an endless stream of beers and listen to you two all night long. Great work both of you!

All the best,

Deej

Thanks, Misha!

The best jams of course is with everyone in the same room, but hard to do with Peter being on the other side of the planet!

Thanks, Bob! Lots of fun working with Peter, I really like his style.
I like the way the guitars fed off each other increasing as the tune went on. I also liked the way they had their own space in the mix. Just a nice noticeable but subtle tonal difference between the guitars. A really good listen. Actually had my poor ole foot moving.

Tony

Hot!

the two styles of playing compliment each other very well

groovin'

in the pocket, very nice

enjoyed the heck out of this!

Kenny

2:38? Come on y'all we could listen to nine minutes of that and then start it over!

We like everything you two do and having you together ices the cake.

We love the blues and we love this...big time!

J&B

PS (Bud here) Love that Statesboro Blues hint in the intro...I went to college in Statesboro and graduated the year the ABB released it. It's my ringtone!!!
Dave & Peter...

THIS. IS. KILLER.

Everything about it is SO RIGHT.

Both guitars are off-the-charts. The mix is as good as they come. The guitars POP. The drums sound great. The organ is so "there". NICE!

Worth many listens. A Big WOW, boys...

Thanks it's great to play and (virtually) jam with Dave.

Thanks, Torrey! It's fun to just play sometimes, especially when you have someone like Peter on board.

Awesome jam guys. Very cool backtrack to jam too. Both you have very distinctive styles and guitar tones but the fit so well together. One of my favorite instrumentals to date. Well done
Great job guys! I really enjoyed listening to the two approaches. They’re similar but still very different. Excellent mix and it’s super to hear you two playing together. Well done, Tom

Hi Gentleman,

Tommy said most of what I was thinking - and better than I might have said it. You two pickers give the Blues a spit shine that glistens like it's plugged into 220!

I miss those days of jamming with other musicians in town. When I lived in Denver, every Sunday afternoon there was a jam from 2:00 pm until midnight where anyone could sit in until their fingers fell off. It was so much fun!

This is just so good in every possible way. the two guitars feed off each other so smoothly. This is a super listen. Totally loved it! best to both of you.

Thanks Bob, Dave did a good job on the backing track.

Peter
Dave & Peter,

I remember your last jam - it was also spectacular. Just enough contrast in your tones and phrasing that even a guitar plodder like me can pick you both out- love that ending where you finally meet in the middle!
Yeah, fretboards across the water- love it.

Hey Kenny,

Yeah, it's fun to just cut loose and play sometimes! Happy you liked this smile
Dave, Peter, you probably already know what I think! Hot stuff from both of you. Trading fours and giving off a lot of steam! Wow, love it. Off for yet another listen!
cool cool
John
Excellent collab Guys. Great guitars and I have always been a sucker for good B-3.

The entire production is "top shelf!" Anxious to hear your next offerings.
Dave and Peter,

Wonderful Jam session!
Killer blues.
The pleasures of playing are transmitted to me straight.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hi Bud,
Yes, I had Statesboro Blues in mind when I started working on this one, I wanted to do something with a similar groove.
I don't remember exactly when I first heard that Live at the Fillmore album, mid 70s sometime. But it's one of those albums that never gets old for me, it would be a desert island pick for sure!

Thanks, Floyd!

My guitar, except for the very end bit, was a one pass improv take intended to be a demo for Peter so he knew where I was going to play, but when I went back to it I liked the feel so I kept it (fixed up a couple of flubbed notes though wink

I think Peter worked the same way, he sent me both his guitar parts a couple of hours after I sent him the bed. So, almost like a real improvised jam session.

Fun! smile

Yes, there is nothing like the real thing, that's for sure! It's been probably 10 years since the last time I did that.

Thanks, Alan!

Thanks, John! It was lots of fun, I'm sure we will do it again sometime.

This sounds great guys. Two master blues men at the top of their game.

Have you considered calling yourselves the "Blues Brothers"?

Just a thought. Has a nice ring to it, I think.
Thanks for all the comments, and to Dave for working on the backing and mix (and responding to all the reviews).

"Blues Brothers", hey, I like it! I had better run out and get a copyright on that before someone else snags it!

Thanks, David wink
