"Red River Valley" 1896
Traditional Cowboy Song
[based on "In the Bright Mohawk Valley"of the 1890s]

1.
From this valley they say you are going:
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile,
For they say you are taking the sunshine,
Which has brightened our pathway awhile.

CHORUS
Come and sit by my side if you love me,
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the Red River Valley
And the girl that has loved you so true.

Bridge

CHORUS
Come and sit by my side if you love me,
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the Red River Valley
And the girl that has loved you so true.

2.
Won't you think of the valley you're leaving?
Oh how lonely, how sad it will be,
Oh think of the fond heart you're breaking,
And the grief you are causing me.

3.
I have promised you, darling, that never
Will a word from my lips cause you pain;
And my life, will be yours forever
If you only will love me again.

CHORUS
Come and sit by my side if you love me,
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the Red River Valley
And the girl that has loved you so true.
And the girl that has loved you so true.

Hi Rob,

I can remember my father singing this all the time back in the 1950s and 1960s. It's a classic and you gave it the treatment it deserves. Nice backing tracks and your vocals are always excellent. On this one I got a feeling of Gene Autry in your voice. Very, very nice! best to you.

Alan
Great job on the old classic Rob! Don't think I've heard this one done for many, many years now. It brought back memories though! Thanks, T

Thank you for listening Sergio.
Really enjoyable rendition with your deep voice a good fit.Very authentic and true to this classic.
Nice production too (1 wondered about the pan on the acoustic guitar - maybe a bit too far to one side?).

Great job on this tune... I love the harmonies...

Reminded me of Roy & The Sons Of Pioneers so I looked it up...

Sure enough it was one of his from the movie of the same name...
Again well done... If you want to hear Roy's version you can find it here.
